Today, Stephen Colbert, host of The Colbert Report, appeared on "Meet the Press," with Tim Russert. Russert interviewed Colbert about his recent announcement that he is running for president, although so far only in South Carolina. Russert seemed incredulous about Colbert's presidential bid, but Stephen set him straight, assuring Russert that he was very serious about his candidacy, and that this was not "a dream you will wake up from." Colbert's "Meet the Press" appearance, a required venue for any serious presidential contender, solidifies Colbert's intention to seek the White House. Let us know what you think about the substance, and the odds, of Colbert's White House bid.

Watch the video from "Meet the Press" below:

It is refreshing to have someone of Stepthen's intelligence and candor running for the highest office in the land. At long last, a candidate we can trust, if only to make us guffaw.

When all is said and done, this epoch in world history will be remembered for the excellent manner in which America chose to adopt the rantings and ravings of a mad comedian as the wisdom of a President. But enough about Bush.

As Mr. Colbert's unofficial campaign manager, let me assure you all that this campaign is something we will never wake up from, especially if nuclear war breaks out before Stephen can assume the reigns of leadership.

Mr. Colbert's campaign tent is large enough for ALL true Americans, as long as you leave your gay friends at home, and are willing to share your brownies with me.

God bless one and all, except those of you on my enemies list, Mamacat

I adore Stephen Colbert. He has the finest satirical mind of our time. He points out the hypocrisy of the "real" candidates and office holders as no other can. Remember the WH Correspondents' dinner of 2006? Go Stephen!

Pretty good. Colbert always sharp even in this difficult environment.

Since Colbert is running in South Carolina, he had better re-connect with his “black friend”.

I hope that he goes beyond South Carolina and develops a real campaign, like Pat Paulson’s.

Colbert is the best hope of having any kind of meaningful discourse about the candidates.

I'm sure die hard conservatives got a woody when Cobert said he should do away with pensions. "Why should we pay people for not working just because they're old". Brillant and what the real idealogues REALLY want!

Stephen most excellently shines a light of TRUTH on the ridiculousness of the religious bigotry that's preventing EQUAL CIVIL RIGHTS for same-sex couples, by having his own even more ridiculous reason. None of that 'sanctity-of-marriage' BS for meta-Colbert, instead it nullifies his whole reason for having gotten married, which was JUST to rub it in the face of gay people ...because they can't.

I really don't see the difference between Colbert and the rest of the Republicans running.

I think Colbert helps the Democrats by pointing out how stupid the thinking is among the neocons.

That interview was the most truthy tim has done in 7 years.
It was almost real.
ROTFLMAO!

Obviously not, seeing how that is what that hack John Stewart attempts to do. Colbert has destroyed many liberal asshats (Frankin, J. Jackson, Dawkins).

The thing Colbert said about forcing a brokered convention made me smile. I'm not sure he was joking.

It would be nice, for a change, if America had a say in who runs for President.

Russert announced there is an interview of Colbert, (the real person, not the character he played in the interview) on MSNBC, later this afternoon.

(Might be better than the "interview.")

Stephen Colbert is funny and extremely intelligent. I enjoy what he has to say. I would rather hear a ridiculous statement from a straight-faced, intelligent comedian than from a religious fanatic seriously running for leadership of this great nation and using discrimination as his platform.

The United States Air Force has announced that at precisely 07:15 am October 23, 2007, it will commence to bombing the head of Tim Russert. Russert's head has been declared an impediment to the other 300 million citizens of the United States from acquiring the oxygen and the sunshine from the air which they need to live healthy lives. Russert's gigantic head has also been determined by officials at NASA to have such a great gravitational pull of it's own that the orbit of the Earth's moon has been notably deteriorating. The moon is expected to collide with the Earth within the next five years if Russert's humongous gourd is allowed to remain in one piece.

Upon hearing of the Air Force's intention, [fake]President G.W. Bush declared he would not allow such an action because it would undoubtedly save lives. The Air Force told [Fake]president Bush to "Bite it".

All will go on as planned.

The Air Force and NASA are keeping the colossal noggin of Chris Mathews under close observation in the belief that it too may be endangering innocent human lives.

Yes, why not waste time interviewing a comedian--who cares about the war, the economy, etc.? Hey, I like Colbert as much as the next guy, but Tim wasted a segment when he could have been grilling a serious candidate.

GRILLING! Now That's funnier than anything I've heard on the Colbert Report! There is not one,I repeat not one,American journalist, reporter, newsman, newswoman or what ever you want to call them, that asks the really tough questions of politicans of any stripe and follows up when they get the usual bullshit reply! They let them off the hook every time...and you can't get them on the grill if you let them off the hook!

Since when are they interested in grilling a serious candidate? Don't make is sound like they actually want to get to any TRUTH.

It is very fitting that Colbert is making the rounds on these lame "news" talk shows.

Why bother "grilling" pathological liars. No matter what the question, tough or otherwise, they always seem to come up with a non answer. Quite bright, but very diabolical.

At least, under President Colbert, though we
may still be systematically robbed and lied to,
it'll be a more entertaining. And, and, there
is an outside chance that he'll have the
stones to upset some longstanding hierarchy
and bring about some good reforms. Also, he
seems to understand and have a pretty good
handle on the issues of the day, so yeah, I'd
vote for him.

The first part of his show was suppose to be about a discussion about the 2008 race BUT the people Tim Russert had on the show were all women gushing over Hillary. Tim Russert was not interested in discussing real issues, he even had the nerve to invite a CLOWN, like Colbert, on his show rather than have serious journalists of all races discuss REAL issues of the 2008 race.
