Darth Vader Nickname Doesn't Bother Cheney: "One Of The Nicer Things I've Been Called Recently"

In a sobering speech to a Middle East think tank, Vice President Cheney used tough language to describe the Iranian regime, terming it "a growing obstacle to peace" in the region.

The vice president termed Iran's reported efforts to arm and direct Iraqi insurgent attacks as "subversive" and "perhaps the greatest strategic threat" to Iraq's Shiite majority as it seeks to establish its independence from Iran's influence. He also again blasted Iran's nuclear program, and warned that the country's direction puts it on a collision course with the U.S. and the international community.

Ole darth rattling the sword saying the international community will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I immediatly think about WMD in Iraq and he then too said similar things. I wonder does this mean that by about January we will be in a war with Iran? A war based on false pretenses but with far greater consequences, we would be fighting Russia as well. Oh and I might add the rest of the world says otherwise about Iran's ambitions, kind of what the world said about Iraq as well. Are we going to follow this knuklehead down the rabbit hole again?

I still don't understand why it's all right for Pakistan, India, and Israel to have nuclear weapons, but not Iran.

Iran must have nuclear weapons; it's the only way to ensure that it won't get invaded by the USA, the way Iraq was!

Imagine a middle-east if the U.S. HADN'T installed the Shah,
HADN'T supported Saddam,
HADN'T armed the Taliban,
HADN'T transferred nerve gas technology to Iraq during the Iran/iraq war,
HADN'T imposed 30 years of sanctions against Iran,
HADN'T given Saddam a wink-and-a-nod over the invasion of Kuwait,
HADN'T had a hand in Pakistan's military disctatorship,
HADN'T lied its way into the second Iraq war.
HADN'T stirred-up militant Islam by its ham-fisted policies.

That middle-east would be a VERY different place today.
