I Like ItI Don’t Like It

From the New York Times, 8/4/01:

For the past two months Rudolph Giuliani has been coming home at night to one of the happiest marriages in New York.

That's how long the mayor, in flight from his own marital wreckage at Gracie Mansion, has been a frequent sleepover guest at the home of Howard Koeppel and his partner, Mark Hsiao. Mr. Koeppel, who is 64, is a Queens car dealer who has been both a close friend and prodigious fund-raiser of Mr. Giuliani's since 1989. The 41-year-old Mr. Hsiao is a Juilliard-trained pianist who works at the city's Department of Cultural Affairs. They've been together almost 10 years -- are registered with the city as domestic partners -- and in happier times for the Giuliani marriage, double-dated with the mayor and Donna Hanover on New Year's Eve. Now they are doting hosts to Mr. Giuliani as he juggles his raucous divorce, his recovery from prostate cancer treatments, his waning months in office, his romance with Judith Nathan, his post-public-life future and, last but hardly least, his search for an affordable Manhattan apartment rental of his own.

The mayor's progressive record on gay civil rights notwithstanding, he has not endorsed same-sex marriage. But, says Mr. Koeppel, ''He did tell us that if they ever legalized gay marriages, we would be the first one he would do.'' Mr. Koeppel and Mr. Hsiao are in favor of the right to marry -- which, among other things, would give gay couples the same protections as heterosexual couples in legal and fiscal matters ranging from immigration and adoption rights to veterans' and Social Security benefits.

Other candidates cheat on their wives with whores and other men but never have the courage to leave them when the marriage goes sour. People have criticized Rudy for being honest and providing freedom to his ex-wives without having a sorted sexual life outside of his marriage.

There are still at least four Republican senators who can learn from Rudy's example.

LOL. Loved the "providing freedom to his ex-wives" part.

How many other politicians have been members of Harvard's hasty Pudding Club or have been through college hazing rites?

People have cross-dressed on Halloween and just had fun. This does not mean that Rudy is a homosexual or a transvestite. He IS a man from NYC who is not affraid to socializing with homosexuals. He is very open minded and gives long, critical thought to decisions before he carries them out.

I am a proud, Liberal Democrat. I will not stand by and see a straight American scandalized for having fun and having the ability to laugh at himself.

Unlike the hypocrite, Senator Larry Craig, Rudy is NOT Gay. He is not a closeted Gay. He is a person with a great sense of humor an ability to empathize with people from all different walks of life. He is a uniter....he brings people together to get things done. He brings out the best in people.

I see Rudy as a deeply religious Catholic. Not a person who just talks the talk, but walks in the steps of Jesus.

My only problem with Rudy is his hawkish stance on foreign policy issues. Will I vote for Rudy? It depends if the Republicans are bright enough to make him their candidate. There is no other Republican who can win Independent and Democratic votes in a National election. There is no other Republican candidate who can reunite the American people through his proven, charismatic leadership qualities. There is no other Republican candidate that can be trusted to uphold the Constitution while, also, making critical decisions in the Middle East and the rest of the world. Trust goes a long way.

You sounded well thought out until you got the "deeply religious catholic" part. I personally don't believe Mr. G has a religious bone in his body. But like all republican candidates, will beat that drum to death.

Divorce is forbidden in the Catholic religion

Um, there's nothing in the Catholic religion I was raised in that says anything about having affairs behind you wife's back, about marrying your cousin, about being for gay rights, then against gay rights, etc. I'm not sure what steps of Jesus you think Rudy walks in, but if you have examples, please share.

Now, substitute Rudolph for Bush:

Each is wearing a costume. Both play the fear game and the fear business real goooood. Devout? Try again.

"Liberal Democrat?" So you are just practicing your shpiel here for Halloween parties?

Your friends will be rolling on the floor.

Rudy "gives long, critical thought to decisions before he carries them out?"

Sure. It takes a while to make peace with your conscience about the constituency you have decided to screw for your political gain.

But that's no problem for Rudy. "As a deeply religious Catholic," it will take only a confessional visit and a few Hail Marys to cure that.

For Rudy, add a few Bloody Marys to the mix.

Lets see the evangel neo cons have some interesting choices in 2008. A Mormon, which the evangels loathe, or Rudy who enjoys dressing up as a woman and who would marry his gay roommate.

The universe works in mysterious ways.

Of course they could always vote for a Baptist minister that believes humans rode around on dinosaurs. My hunch is they are going to prefer the Baptist minister, which gives you an idea of the intelligence of these neo cons. They are scary folks very scary.

In their hearts they think they are good for America but they are everything wrong with this country or almost everything. I.e. Liberals lack anything that resembles courage. (Nancy and Reid are a reflection of these spineless liberals).

There are new souls and old souls on this planet, the neo cons that love wars for profits warmongering and they really love the wall street folks of greed is good capitalism; yes these neo cons show clear signs of being very new souls.

What is so odd about this? All the top Republican leadership are pervs. That is how they keep them in line.

All Rudy has to say is he enjoys sucking cock as a hobby but is not gay and the GOP will make him their candidate.

It can be confusing. I remember it this way:

For Rudy, it's Judy.
For Craig, it's doody.
For Foley, it's young booty.

Rudy, I am certain that you are aware that this is the ultimate sellout of your soul and moral integrity. Furthermore, I am certain that you realize you are compromising your basic principles in an attempt to get elected. How do you live with yourself after doing something this repugnant? I feel ashamed for you.

"...you are compromising your basic principles in an attempt to get elected."

ALL candidates do it - tell the audience anything that makes the speaker look concerned and caring when in reality they just want a job they are unqualified for.

Worked for GWB!

It's not selling your soul; that's the election process. You put together a platform of beliefs, plans, goals hopefully that will get you 51% of the electorial college votes.

I saw that too. Only a Repukeagain like Rudy could run on a failed policy and think it was a good thing. Excelent stratogy in the location of the emergency response headquarters, no communications, forcing clean up workers to work in poisoness conditions. You da man, er
woman Tudy.

Rudy is as much a liar as George Bush. He'll get into office, throw all his promises on the floor and do what he damn well pleases.

He's a wolf in shee's clothing and not to be trusted any more than John McCain.

Besides, do we really want to resurrect the divisiveness that the gay marriage issue raised in this country again? Isn't it about time we had a president that united the people instead of continuing to drive wedges between them?

How come Rudy has been married so many times. Could it be that each of his brides lacks what he really wants? How bout Larry Craig as his running mate. Wouldn't they be an item. Larry could be VP and First Lady all at the same time. What sleaze bags these republicans be.

Like all politicians, he lies in order to go where ever the current voting trends take him. He is not to be believed under any circumstances.

rudy admitted he supported and voted for george mcgovern over nixon..he voted for mario cuomo over republican george pataki..both times he ran for mayor,he sought and recd.the new york state liberal party endorsement.he recd. thousands of votes on their line..he did not seek the conservative party endorsement because he had nothing in common with them..now that he is running for president,he has discovered like saul on his way to damascus, that consertatives have greater morals ,greater family values, and most important, greater influence in the primarys..if i didn't know better i would guess that karl rove was giving him advise. after it was rove who convinced the decider to become a born again..it will be a little more difficult for a catholic like rudy to convert but with the religious right representing 23 percent of the republican vote and his own bishop turning against him,i believe rudy might discover that hes seen the light and he truly born again.just another daily miracle....
