Family Of 12-Year-Old Smeared By Right Vows To Say In Health Care Debate

A Maryland family caught in the partisan crossfire over a children's health-care bill in Congress is now stepping back into the divisive debate, advocating this time for state legislation that would expand coverage for adults.

Three weeks ago, after 12-year-old Graeme Frost offered a radio appeal for expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), his family became fodder for conservative bloggers. The Frosts were derided as freeloaders who relied on government insurance for their children while they sent two to private school. Bloggers staked out their Baltimore rowhouse, declaring it too fancy for a family that can't afford to pay for health insurance. Commentator Rush Limbaugh imitated Graeme Frost's voice, damaged in a car accident, and said congressional Democrats were using the boy to "advance a distortion."

Wanted to remind people that the fight over this legislation is far from over. I've worked with Families USA the last couple weeks to raise awareness of this legislation and to fight a veto...the fight continues, and we still need peoples support.

I guess conservatives are really up in arms because this incident reveals that there are a LOT of people that are just minimally well off, working, playing by the rules STILL need help.

And frankly why aren't the liberals digging up dirt on conservative bloggers-why don't they find out what government programs Michelle or Rush benefitted from, c'mon ya just know they can find something.

I don't believe the 12 year old was smeared. His family and the Democrats that paraded the boy around were attacked though.
It is interesting that the family of this unfortunate boy that the Dems used as a poster child for SCHIP have enough money to send their kids to privates schools. It warms my heart to see my tax dollars going to support those with more money than myself.

The children attend a private school on a SCHOLARSHIP. What part of that don't you understand?

Why is it alright for the CT Cowboy to pose with "snowflake babies", or for a GOP congressman to surround himself with schoolchildren during a press conference in order to avoid being asked questions about a sex scandal?

As long as we have people who deliberately distort the debate we will never have a comprehensive reformation of our healthcare system. The right wingers are only interested in distorting the facts. That is why they attack and smear people. They have no interest in what is being said. Just attack and smear the general message by attaching the word socialism and communist to the end of it.
