ABC News :

Presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani hired a Catholic priest to work in his consulting firm months after the priest was accused of sexually molesting two former students and an altar boy and told by the church to stop performing his priestly duties.

The priest, Monsignor Alan Placa, a longtime friend of Giuliani and the priest who officiated at his second wedding to Donna Hanover, continues to work at Giuliani Partners in New York, to the outrage of some of his accusers and victims' groups, which have begun to protest at Giuliani campaign events.

Wayne Barrett of the Village Voice did a great article about rudy's faux catholicism a while back. Also discusses his relationship with this monsignor. Check it out here:

Giuliani is a Criminal. Take a moment and read..

"Does the GOP still exist? or are they all Neo Cons now?"

Who are the GOP representing? They're obviously not representing Muslims, African Americans, Latin Americans, or the middle class. I'm not sure they even have a 'base' anymore, The Christian Right is throwing their abortion hissy fit, the Minutemen are on revolt about immigration, and the military is turning sour on the war. America, the GOP is in trouble...and it's a good thing.

I know that that the a large segment of the voting population are devout simple folks putting hands to the screen or exorcising evil from devil-ridden promiscuous girls, but the one repeated lesson that fails to be learned by would-be Presidents of the great US of A is that these religious leaders are just lowering their ethical veneer. Obama's guy is apparently an intolerant "gay hater" and Rudy's man of the cloth is a molester of young men - mayhap the two should meet and share some brotherly Christian love - and get off the hypocritical band wagons.

fascists are into pederasty and child porn. Look at this list: and it's not complete by any means, only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Rudy's a Red Sox fan, Rudy's a Red Sox fan, Rudy's a Red Sox fan.
Geez, can you get lower than that? No Yankee fan, under any circumstance, would say that. As for the priest, they will see each other in hell, that's for sure.

I don't care how the republican candidates mess themselves up. I read the article until I came to the following paragraph:

"This man did unjust things, and he's being protected and employed and taken care of. It's not a good thing," said one of the accusers, Richard Tollner, who says Placa molested him repeatedly when he was a student at a Long Island, N.Y. Catholic boys high school in 1975.

I don't believe there are any normal high school boys who can't run faster than a molesting priest. I've never met a molesting priest but I could have outrun them when I was in the second grade. There's no such thing as being "repeatedly" molested unless . . . .

A minor CANNOT consent to sex with an adult. Even if the kid liked it. Even if the kid dropped his drawers first. It is still WRONG.

Teenage boys have hormones in high gear. Their brains don't develop so fast...

This is never acceptable. Geez, I thought people knew that already.

Exactly. And any woman who dresses provocatively deserves to get raped; is just asking to get raped, in fact. The victim is ALWAYS at fault.

What's the issue, homosexuality is a political banner for the democrat party. Nancy Pelosi, your leader, marched in San Francisco with America's most well known pedophilia advocate.

Rudi Giulian marched EVERY YEAR in the New York City Pride Parade. WITH the NAMBLA float.

Same thing that happened to Pelosi in San Francisco. Neither marched WITH NAMBLA.

As to pedophilia:

Republican Party Chairman Donald Fleischman was charged with two counts of child enticement, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child and a single charge of exposing himself to a child.

Republican prosecutor John David Roy Atchison was arrested for soliciting sex from a 5-year old girl, then killed himself three weeks later. At the time of his arrest, Atchison was an "assistant U.S. attorney" appointed by President Bush's attorney general.

Republican city councilman John Bryan killed himself after police began investigating allegations that he had molested three girls, including two of his adopted daughters, ages 12 and 15.

Republican legislator Ted Klaudt was charged with raping girls under the age of 16.
Republican city councilman Joseph Monteleone Jr. was found guilty of fondling underage girls.
Republican congressional aide Jeffrey Nielsen was arrested for having sex with a 14-year old boy.

Republican County Commissioner Patrick Lee McGuire surrendered to police after allegedly molesting girls between the ages of 8 and 13.

Republican prosecutor Larry Corrigan was arrested for soliciting sex from 13-year old girls.
Republican Mayor Jeffrey Kyle Randall was sentenced to 275 days in jail for molesting two boys -- ages ten and 12 -- during a six-year period.

Republican County Board Candidate Brent Schepp was charged with molesting a 14-year old girl and killed himself three days later.

Republican Congressman Mark Foley abruptly resigned from Congress after "sexually explicit" emails surfaced showing him flirting with a 16-year old boy.

Republican executive Randall Casseday of the conservative Washington Times newspaper pleaded guilty to soliciting sex from a 13-year old girl on the internet.

This just in, via DailyKos.com... more proof that Rudy will say ANYTHING to get elected:

Sounds like a baseball flip-flop. Rudy Giuliani, a lifelong New York Yankees fan, said Tuesday he's pulling for their most hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox, to win the World Series over the Colorado Rockies.

"I'm rooting for the Red Sox," the Republican presidential contender said in response to a question, sparking applause at the Boston restaurant where he was picking up a local endorsement.

New Hampshire is Red Sox territory.

Shameless. Absolutely shameless. George Steinbrenner should bill him for all the free tickets he gave Rudy to Yankees games.

Then what the hell IS he talking about?"
We're in agreement about what he was talking about. My quibble was over, where Hitchens spent time trying to nuance a comparison; I don't think it was a valid argument to say, "Well, you can’t compare F-16s with eagles". After reading his article I was convinced that the two are similar enough.

"I'll never understand the haste with which right-wing ideologues slander the left over this issue, specifically since I (like most leftists) explicitly condemn Islamic terrorism here and elsewhere."
I'm not a right-wing ideologue; I'm liberal on pretty much every issue except this one, but I still think it’s a point worth considering. Since we can agree that Radical Muslims have a penchant for totalitarian tendencies (which is an aspect of fascism), I just wish liberals spent more time expressing outrage about these people than reverting to some sort of multi-culturalism or trying to temper the conservatives (but I guess that’s what’s to be expected when we’re dealing with staunch apologists for the whole unfathomably abhorrent Iraq war debacle).

I guess it's pretty sad that the whole issue was politicized to the point that it is. I think you're (and Kerry was) right that this quandary is more a law-enforcement and intelligence problem than a matter of invading any countries. But if these people did have official state sponsorship, would you then accept the term’s validity? (just asking)

I’m not all that attached to the term. Reading your responses to other comments, I think we are in disagreement about the number of Radical Muslims and the potential threat that they pose, at which point I will admit my ignorance, and humbly go try to get more informed.

Thanks for responding; sorry for the long-windedness of original post.

I don't like Rudy as a candidate but there's one word that sticks out in the headlines: "accused". It doesn't say he hired a "convicted" child molester. So, along with all the other civil liberties that have been trampled on over the years, we now toss out all notions of innocent until proven guilty. If anyone anywhere accuses someone of something and if the press and the blogs run with it... then the person should just be taken out back and shot. Why bother with silly things like investigation, rule of law, presumptions of innocence, and proper forums for redress. Just swift-boat 'em and move on to the next bullsh*t headline grab.

The point here is Rudy's judgement...see Bernie Kerik...the choosing of a Command Center at the WTC so he could rendevous with Judy Nathan while still married...bringing his mistress to Gracie Mansion and told by a judge to get the hell out of there for such an affront to his wife.

Forget about being proven guilty, it's irrelevant. The fact that Placa was told by the church to stop performing his priestly duties is condemning in itself, since, after all, they answer to a higher authority. The man is badly tainted and Rudy should know better. But then again, what does Placa know about Rudy that we don't know? If the fundies still support him in light of this information, they truly are the hypocrites that they often appear to be.
