Associated Press:

Britney Spears, "Blackout" (Jive Records): Just when it seemed safe to write off Britney Spears as a punch line only capable of entertaining people through tabloid escapades, she goes and gets all musically relevant on us.

"Blackout," her first studio album in four years, is not only a very good album, it's her best work ever _ a triumph, with not a bad song to be found on the 12 tracks.

Granted, a Spears rave should be put in its proper context _ it's not like we're talking Bob Dylan here. Spears is a lightweight singer who only flourishes when she has great songs and great producers to supplement her minimal vocal talent.

See, that's not what I heard...

I've heard that this album is overproduced within an inch of its life.

That "Britney" -- or rather, the team of 200+ people who actually produce her "voice", sounds like a robot instead of an actual human.

They didn't have much to work with this time around, so they recorded whatever feeble squawks they could get her to croak out in between nose-candy refills in the bathroom.

Then they "enhanced" these mutterings digitally by merging them with recorded sounds and altering them:

(1) feral cats in heat
(2) frogs in a swamp outside Ray Parish, LA
(3) an odd cow giving birth here and there
(4) Paris Hilton passing gas on Bentley leather
(5) the sound Britney makes when she pulls herself off a leather couch with no panties on

And other things too awful to mention in polite company.

And voila! another successful production!

Far too many people are seeking their 15 minutes of fame by milking poor Britney's craziness. This woman (the reviewer) obviously has a few problems of her own.

Britney's best singing effort, is right up there with George Bush's best speech.

Her claim to fame is that she was moderately attractive, and a reasonably good dancer. The only benefit of her singing, is that it is slightly less insipid than her speaking. At least with song someone else provided the words.

Work? You call that work?
In 3 years she will be a question on a trivia game show.

It's evident after reading this article that the author would rather sit in a dentist's chair rather than give Britney's CD a positive review. The truth hurts, Ha!

Although he had to admit the truth unfortunately he also felt compelled to pile on and say something nasty about her personally. The author, I'm sure like many critics should clean up his own backyard instead of ragging on Britney. Just do your job, no matter how painful it may be to you personally.

Britney's CD is good, Britney's CD is great, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Lucille, what are you talking about? This WAS a positive review ...

All the "nasty" stuff he said about her was what we call "facts" which are presented for what we call "context".

In news writing, the story is always the surprise. And the surprise in this case is that Britney can produce anything worthwhile at all.

to DocManhattan,

The author of this article criticized every aspect of Brit's life before getting down to what he or she (I can't tell which), was presumably paid to do which was to write a review of Brit's new CD. All the other criticisms were uncalled for and just showed the writer's lack of imagination as he felt it necessary to fill his article with unconstructive comments and vitriol against Britney.

Brit's CD is apparently great, just say so and move on.
