Gates Calls Planning For Iran Strike "Routine"

Reuters:

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday characterized U.S. military planning for a strike on Iran as "routine".

"I would characterize it as routine," Gates told reporters on a flight en route to Washington, when asked about any U.S. planning for military action against Iran.

The Pentagon plans for hundreds of potential scenarios that could involve military force in a variety of roles ranging from offensive operations to disaster response.

Interesting war games from a unilateral perspectiv­e... In gaming, depicting potential aftermath scenarios might be helpful also. War with Iran spells catastrophe, quite simply put. Whether we would like to admit it or not, Iran can turn up the heat in the Mid East just like a chef adjusting a flame.

When nuclear armed nations face each other the concept of MAD (mutually assured destruction) is valid. Iran would not trade Tehran for let's say Tel-Aviv. Therefore, for all the possible rhetoric, a stalemate occurs.

It would be suicide to further probe this region with our big stick. We are going to be rewarded with neither gold nor honey.
