That these kind of cases (this isn't the only case in the country like this) have gone to trial, that these kind of laws have been passed and enacted, that these kind of verdicts have been made and sentence doled out is another indication of how backwards, ignorant, redneck and down right stupid 100's of thousands, millions of American adults are. It is grow-ups, adults who concoct this outrage and who force their mindless ignorance on to innocent young people for no advantage to anyone other than to satisfy their perverted obsession with punishment. What a trauma for this young man to have had his freedom taken away from him, to be incarcerated for what? Having sex? And it was consensual sex. Why did they not lock the girl away as well? Why didn't the judge in the initial trial tell the parents, "Look, get out of my courtroom with this foolishness. Take your children home and try again to teach them what you think they need to know to protect themselves, but for the love of god people stop dragging your children into the courthouse to humiliate them and fill them with shame, to incarcerate them and fill them with cynicism and bitterness. Have you no heart? Have you no soul? Have you no brain? Go away."

Wait a minute. He was 17, she was 15. She was not old enough to give consent.

What pleases me most about this whole scenario is that Blacks and Whites together believe this was pure injustice meted out by the justice system.

Maybe if Americans of all shades continued in this pattern of objectivity rather than the usual "let me take the side of my race" pattern, we all might have something progressive to hold on to in this most regressive of times.

This was a ridiculous sentence to begin with. I am not sure it was racist, as much as it is ignorant and harsh.

I really didn't understand why Sharpton and gang never stood up for this kid. This was a clearly a racist decision to jail him for what he did. I'm glad it was overturned.

Common sense prevails

At least the Georgia Supreme Court has apparently learned its lesson about draconian misapplication of laws about sexual behavior.

It has been nearly 20 years since Bowers v. Hardwick. And it took much of that time to reverse the injustice the GA Supremes perpetuated.

Too bad that, even this time, the right decision was made by a margin of only ONE vote.

FINALLY...........this was a total B*LLSH*T racist decision from the get-go.
