On today's "The View," the ladies were discussing women hitting men and whether it's OK for men to hit back. Sherri Shepherd, the gift that keeps on giving, apparently condones the practice: "Nowadays, if you hit a man, you better be expected to get slapped right back," she said. Watch:

The view should have hired Jamie Foxx. Jamie Foxx in drag would be better than this Sherrie beast.

so the View audience is up since Rosie left....attributed the rising numbers to blacks who tune in to watch Sherri...
the silence is deafening.
the only women I EVER heard *this* from were abused with very low self esteem....maybe 1 or 2

The Views marketing department must be after that
abused woman dollar. That explains the sexual lubricant as a sponsor.

Sherrie's right. You should keep your hands to yourself.

I've had women tell me what Sherrie says. The problem being that if you do hit a woman you'll never get rid of her.

View is a show that gives on giving. And we thought with one motor mouth gone it is going to be pleasant ? Guess again, now Sherry talks constantly, even with the subjuct she is clueless about, say politics.
Yes off topic, I know.

Reminds me of the old joke:

Q: What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?
A: Nothing! You told her twice already!

Ahh, the classics never go out of style.

My first wife was abusive. I can't tell you all how bad it sucked to have a little 110 lb woman come after you with a frying pan and not be able to fight back.

I hate this double standard, but it's a good double standard.

Never hit a woman no matter how much she deserves it.

Don't hit a man, either. Call the cops.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:05 PM on 10/26/2007

If you call the cops in a domestic situation and have children in the house, be ready to be investigated by child protective services. Even if you called because you couldn't protect yourself from the violence, the guy will turn around and make up a bunch of garbage about you, and child protective will end up putting the both of you on a State Central Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment for fighting and creating a dangerous situation with children present---It happened to me!!
So be careful if you have children and call the cops--my advice in retrospect is not to do it--it's caused me more problems than it solved. Better to just try to get away--go to a domestic shelter and be sure to take your kids with you. That's what I should have done. Now I'm stuck trying to get a divorce with him in the house and just hoping that I can win custody.

Don't go into a rural Georgia sheriff's office if, you're a male, to report your spouse has abused you. I did and it went over like a lead balloon and I was arrested.

So why do so many men hit women? Seems like most guys here are against it yet domestic violence stats are alarming.

Average of three to five women per day are murdered by their spouse/partner.

Pregnant women are more likely to be victims of homicide perpetrated by their intimate partner/spouse than to die of ANY other cause.

Up to three million incidents of violence against women by their partner are reported annually.

Globally one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime.

Who are these men??????

brooklyncitizen--Excellent points. As an advocate for battered women, I was appalled at first that men would attack pregnant women (actually, to be honest, I'm still quite appalled) but I have learned that it is common. In a recent case, a man kicked a pregnant woman repeatedly in the lower abdomen. She woke up in a pool of blood. She lost her baby, and they told her in the hospital she may be unable in the future to have children.

Reality isn't always pretty.

Why does the Huffington Post persist in airing the views of this less than brilliant woman? A person who does not know that the world is not flat is not someone whose views should be broadcast to anyone! PLEASE! Stop reporting on this relic of a show. When Rosie left, it died. Whoppi is trying, but look who she has to work with! I no longer watch it, but leave it to the HuffPost to throw it in my face. Enough already!

Hmmm, if Gloria Stienham had said the exact same thing, same context, same show, I don't believe you would have written this comment. Think about it...different woman, say a highly placed academic feminist saying the exact same thing, (albeit with a different accent) would have been taken as an indictment of the low level of expectation we have as a society of men in general. However a BLACK woman says this and she is somehow CONDONING male on female violence. Sak, you should check your bigoted sensibilities. We all have them you know, but yours are showing!
And Huffpo...ROTTEN Headline, I would expect more...

"Think about it...different woman, say a highly placed academic feminist saying the exact same thing," Iggy

You mean Camile Paglia? She has been known to get violent when losing an argument, and then to try and get the man who out thought and out talked her arrested when the cops came. She is not a real feminist, just a disgusting person.

Totally disagree. In fact the fact that she is black kind of makes me cringe.

She is a walking stereotype of all sorts of negative myths about black women. She is overweight, inarticulate, kind of ghetto in her speech. She is a carcicature.
She is two-dimensional, flat, a bore and tiresome.

I would bet that most people who say "hit her back" are good born again christians.(?) What about "turn the other cheek"? Or walk away, or stop doing what it was that made her think she needed to hit in the first place.

Knee jerk, unthinking, mindless reaction shows a lack of character and IQ.

Judge Judy has stated many times that male or female, you have no right to lay your hands on another person, that being said, Sherri simply stated a fact, if woman hits a man she should deal with the consequences. I see no problem with that, and she is talking about unprovoked attacks, obviously.

Gotta agree.

Ditto Fuji and marquis...

As usual, some folks are missing the larger message and that would be to focus on the abuser him/herself. If someone puts their hands on you, yes you should probably turn the other cheek or walk away, or maybe you should defend yourself.

As marquis stated, if you make a conscious choice to put your hands on someone, then the abuser should be prepared to deal with the consequences. Its easy to slam the messenger, but harder to address the message they've brought.

I will suffer NO ONE to attack me with impunity, a gun or knife maybe, but not with impunity. That being said, I will knock some sense into you if you attack me no matter what your gender. I will not strike first but I do reserve the right to be free from physical attack and to this end I will strike back. Scream at me, jump up and down, or call me names, but do not attempt to hit me or throw things at me. Oh, and by the way my level of retaliation depends on the circumstances.

And then you'll be arrested. Retaliaton is not a free pass for violence. Take a breather and realize you're not a jungle animal. Use your brain, not your fists, and let the cops handle violent people.

As I said it depends on the circumstances. Do not attempt to strike or strike me and there will be no problem.

It is becoming clearer and clearer why America is waging these immoral and illegla wars.
Maybe it's the drinking water?

In any case, we have a long ways to go to learn about peace and non-resitance.

I was punched in the jaw and knocked to the ground by a live-in girlfriend. I did not hit her back. I did something that was more effective far more devastating to her than hitting her. I dumped her. Made her pack her bags the next morning, no discussion, just shut-up and leave. Her tears had no effect. If more women could learn to take similarly effective action this issue would disappear.

So you are blaming women for the abuse they suffer?

How about men curtailing their violence? We have a handful of posts about violent gf's but who is perpetrating the violence in the world?
It ain't us.

In fact, Dr.Yunus, Nobel laureate for est. the Grameen Bank early on identified that if you lend money to women the whole community benefits. It stands to reason, women are the creator of the nest and will sustain it at all costs.I am continually amazed by what women do.
