A-Rod Walks Away From Baseball's Fattest Paycheck

AP:

Alex Rodriguez opted out of his $252 million, 10-year contract with the Yankees on Sunday in what appears to be the end of his career with New York. Rodriguez's decision, announced by agent Scott Boras during Game 4 of the World Series, makes him eligible to become a free agent.

Rodriguez loses the final $72 million in guaranteed salary in the contract, of which $21.3 million was to be covered by payments from the Texas Rangers to the Yankees. New York had said it would not attempt to re-sign A-Rod if he opted out.

Some guys just can't win the BIG GAME.
They don't have heart.
A=prefix for No
How about AHeart[no heart].

ARod is a wimp.
I'm a 50 year Yankee fan,
but AHole can't shine the shoes of
Ortiz and/or Manny: It's all about hitting when it counts.
Thank G-d he's gone.
What is AWimp frightened of (in the postseason)?

Hello Anaheim.

Good bye and good riddance. Who's dumb enough to pick up this cancer?

What a complete shmuck-o this moron is to listen to his agent....read:LEACH..on this one! Who will pay him MORE than he was making??? Saudi Arabia? Dubai?

Great player - no doubt...But - this is a team game and he somehow disrupts the "dynamic" everywhere he goes...

i watched or listened to most yankee games this season, as usual. it really was a great season, and mr rod was fantastic, but he swore he wanted to remain a yankee. i don't know about you, but i hate lyers. so, after 7 sickening years of lies [by our "leaderhosen"], it is intolerable to be lied to in my escape world of baseball. sorry, baby. good ridance, and message to the new boss. you better not go back on your promise to not sign the traitor if he did this to the ny fans. one wish......that mr rod up the butt gets the index finger with a rubber glove. no offers. oh, sorry i forgot about mr bore-us. index finger from the other hand for you, and no glove this time. so long, chalootz.

A-Hole Rodriguez... Been a dick ever since he gave Seattle the finger and pouted off.

A-hole always looks out for #1, even if he's a festering pile of #2.

I'm an old time Yankee fan. They are all
over paid but A-Rod especially. He is not
an October player. He's an APril player,
a June player. He folds in the playoffs.
ANd Joe Torre- good riddance. He was over
paid too. The ANgels and Indian have much better
managers and they produce more than Torre.
So goodbye A-Rod and goodby Joe. Don't let
the door hit you on the way out.
Now the Yanks can get pitching. That's what
they really need. They should fire Cashman
and hire Epstein.

I'm a Red Sox fan and I think the Yankees made a mistake getting rid of Torre. The Yankees were 12 games out of first place at one point but he got them into the playoffs, with an, at best, mediocre pitching staff!

Talk about hubris (look it up).
Congrats about the win,
but mind your own business.
You may have Ortiz and Manny,
but you don't have a clue.

All A-Rod wants is the ring! The World Series Ring. And he can't buy that with all the money in the world. He has to earn it. And he isn't. He plays great during the regular season and then FOLDS in the post season games. He is a loser and he knows it. Any team that pays him a penny for his so called services deserves to lose! He was sooooo positive that the Yankees would win all those W.S. and they didn't, he found out it took a lot more than him to win. I would like to see "NO" team bid on him, let him sit a year out, and think about his actions. NOWAY-Rod.

A-Rod, the ultimate October choker. Bitch slapper of baseballs(2004 ALCS). A drag on any team, no matter how good his numbers.

Anybody curious why so many players have such phenomenal years only in their last year before free agency?

And yes, Fox WS coverage was horrible!

what a brave, brave stand from an american patriot.

What a shame going into the last two innings of the World Series last night with the score at 4 to 3 our beloved Fox sports decides to flash A-Rod's money hungry face on national TV, then preceded to talk about A-Rod, his marketing plan, money the Shit head can make, were he fits in across the league and with Lowell the 3rd basemen for Boston in the process of winning MVP for the World Series could be replaced by A-Rod.

What a shame these two teams fight all year long to be in the World Series and get there and then FOX in the last two innings of a sweep for Boston and the score 4 to 3 and with the Rockies doing everything they can to stay in the series have FOX stop the world Series while they talk up A-Rod what a shame for Boston and Denver. A-Rod is money hungry dwib who has never been a good team player and thats proven........right Jeter

As a devoted member of Red Sox Nation, I hope and pray they don't sign A-Rod. He's the ultimate "all about me" guy, and would fit in at Fenway like brown shoes with a tuxedo. I'll bet Jeter, Rivera, and Posada will stay with the Yankees, now that A-Rod will be gone. Boras says he was waiting for them to decide? More likely it's the other way around.

Please, Theo, please...give Mike Lowell a three-year deal! Know when you're well off.

I'm a Red Sox fan too and agree 100%.
