Mexico Police: 100 Percent Of Drug Killings Committed With Smuggled US Guns

First Posted: 3/28/08 Updated: 5/25/11

Washington Post:

Assassins blasted Ricardo Rosas Alvarado, a member of an elite state police force, with a blizzard of bullets pumped out of AK-47 assault rifles.

Alvarado crumpled at the wheel of his sedan, yet another victim of the weapons known here as "goat's horns" because of their curved ammunition clips, and which can fire at a rate of 600 rounds per minute. The killing, Mexican authorities said, was a panorama of blood, shattered glass and torn metal that brutally showcased the firepower of Mexico's drug cartels. But that was just the warm-up.

HEADLINE: Mexico Police: 100 Percent Of Drug Killings Committed With Smuggled US Guns

SCORCHEDEARTH: So what.
09:39 PM on 10/29/2007
Are all the commentators on the huffpost now trolls and xenophobes? Seems the only big dollar goods still produced here in the US are armaments, aircraft, and high power propulsion systems. And these gringos who peddle them seem happiest with a warm gun. When they feel their finger on the trigger they know that no one can do them any wrong. There seems to be only jingoist and Americo-fascist crap on these pages and it keeps repeating itself over and over again. Is there any wonder that the rest of the world is scared shitless of what's going on here? Hang on to your seat, here comes WWIII.

The right to bear arm's an american right all of us should have the right to the weapon of our pick I PICK AN ATOMIC BOMB

If these American guns are such a problem I suggest the Mexican Army patrol our common border to prevent smuggling. The Mexican Army has no problem patroling their Southern border in order to keep Central Americans out so why can't they enforce their Northern Border as well?
Build the fence.Patrol it. They can keep their illegals aliens, meth and coke and we'll keep our guns.
10:51 PM on 10/29/2007
Lets see most meth is made here in the United States and most of the good coke comes from Columbia.

Guns are EASY to make. If we start another futile war...The War On Guns it will simply start a new black market and add to the violence and corruption.
05:57 PM on 10/29/2007
Repeal Drug prohibition and end the futile War On Some Drugs and the violence and corruption will fade away everywhere.

Oh, and with regard to this headline,

it is bullshit.

Quoting the Mexican police
about anything
is a worthless enterprise.

Agreed.

You sound well informed about Mexico and intelligent in general. You probably understand this: Vete a la chingada. Tengo tu jefa a veinte unas.

I would urge anyone interested
in really knowing what goes on at
the border to read

The Reaper's Line
by Lee Morgan II.

Guaranteed to blow your mind.
Mexico is still and will remain
perhaps the most corrupt country
on the planet.

And we have actually been in a state
of war with them for decades.
Firefights across the border are common.

Journalists getting slaughtered.

Cartels getting richer.

And for those looking for that warm and fuzzy
feeling, demanding the borders remain open
and putting out water for desert crossers

are exactly the

WRONG

things to do!

You care about Mexicans?

Then DEMAND the border be sealed
and that Mexico do something
about poverty.

But,
won't happen.

Drugs own Mexico.
Drugs own the American border.
05:04 PM on 10/29/2007
simple solution, don't buy drugs.
04:21 PM on 10/29/2007
we give them guns, they give us slave labor....who's complaining about what now??
04:15 PM on 10/29/2007
The Bush crime family is still trading in guns for drugs? Imagine that!

These drug traffickers, with their steady supply of U.S. weaponry, are the target of President Bush's proposed $500 million U.S. aid package to help Mexico battle cartels.

See Bush gives Mexico $500 million to "battle" cartels. The money is then used to purchase huge amounts of weaponry on the black market. Then those weapons can be sold "retail" one at a time for an astonishing profit by the corrupt Mexican officials. Just remember every dollar involved in this scheme comes out of the Treasury of the United States.

Your all a bunch of suckers. Bush is a fucking Black Market Baby. George is the most corrupt and criminal President to ever darken the doors of the White House.

Watch the assholes post their "How can you blame America?" rants. Mexico feeds off of the border to the tune of billions per year. Then Bush sends them another half billion just for yuks. Hey it aint his money. Great President there. Very wise. Good investment. Almost as good as the billions wasted in Iraq.

Calderon says Mexico doesn't end at it's borders. Since nobody in our government refuted that statement, then why doesn't Mexico just march right on in and go house to house to remove the guns from it's "community cititzens", aka, formerly U.S. citizens?

Open border groups, our government and Mexico would all be happy.

Mexican druglords trading illegal drugs for illegal guns from american gun smugglers. Who would have thought such a thing possible.

Enjoy the side effects of ALLOWING the pedaling of poison that has infected our society.

I live on the Mexican border. My house is 7 miles from the river. I have very good friends who are border patrol and customs agents.

You folks just don't know how completely out of control its gotten down here. Murder, drug and people smuggling and money laundering are the order of the day. Politicos and judges are bought off. Gangs from both Mexico and the U.S. base their operations out of here. If you want to keep your skin attached to your body, you best mind your own business down here on the border. Talk to any federal agent about the false economies of South Texas completely based on drugs and money launderling.

So Mexico complains about guns from the U.S.? Let me tell you, they don't give a rat's butt except when it's one of their own that get's killed. And if you think you will disarm me because of Mexico's problems, I got one reply for you. As the flag that flew over the Alamo stated, prior to Santa Ana's attack, "COME AND TAKE IT!" I and others are so tired of Mexico's dribble. Ask any Anglo or Hispanic living on the U.S. side and they will tell you, no one exploits and abuses a poor Mexican like a Rich Mexican.

Relax man, nobody's trying to take your guns away because of Mexico's (generally corrupt) police. I agree, having been a photojournalist along the border, that most Americans have absolutely no idea just how heavy, and heavily criminalized, the border-sneak traffic is.

As for the Mexican police and army, virtually 100% of the drug traffic comes across the border with their help. Border Patrol and DEA no longer share much info with the Mexican authorities. The test runs they've done with planted, false info show that it's usually leaked immediately to 'coyotes' and drug smugglers.

Bingo! I have lived most of my life near the border and your "average" American has no clue how bad it is.

And the government will do nothing.
