In his remarkable twenty-year career as a New York Times business journalist, Kurt Eichenwald has seen himself as a kind of crusader--shedding light on the world's dark places, uncovering wrongdoing, bringing criminals to account. Lately, however, the pursuer feels like the pursued. "I had no idea of what I was taking on. I had no idea of the magnitude of the evil of these people," he tells me. "This is an organized-crime business, these are people--we're not talking about people with an affinity for Scotch--they spend their days talking and living and breathing the sexual issues of children."

Two years ago, Eichenwald wrote a sensational front-page story in the New York Times about Justin Berry, a teenage pornography star who ran an enormously lucrative business from his room while his mother thought he was doing homework. The article resulted in congressional hearings, arrests, book-and-movie interest, and an Oprah episode. Eichenwald followed that first story with disturbing reports about illegal child-modeling Websites and self-help chat rooms where child molesters perfect their strategies. The Berry piece was impressive in its vividness. Law-enforcement agencies seized upon it as the definitive word about a sordid, teeming underworld, and parents inclined to worry about the dangers of the Internet were given reason to worry much more.

anyone who believes that the porn industry is not behind this smear campaign is sadly naive.

Porn is a billion-dollar industry with seedy lobbyists just like any other big industry.

I think we are all aware enough to acknowledge that there are plenty of people in power who have some pretty deviant proclivities who might be working behind the scenes to protect their "dealers".

It's interesting to see Eichenwald try to do to Nathan what he is being done to him. Nathan has done serious work tempering much of the hysteria surrounding child molestation and child porn, and to see her accused of endorsing something by a more powerful and better connected man with very apparent involvement in that same thing is chilling. Eichenwald is not the victim here.

I found it interesting that Eichenwald has finally admitted that he viewed illegal porn. It's tucked away in the middle of the article. According to France: "Eichenwald says Berry showed him the preview video for his Website. It featured him and a kid named "Taylor," side by side on a bed masturbating. Taylor, Berry said, was just 14 years ago."

Last year Debbie Nathan wrote an article saying that sometimes reporters have to look at illegal materials to do their job and cited Eichenwald as an example. Eichenwald vehemently responded that he had never viewed illegal material and threatened to sue Nathan. It looks to me like Eichenwald owes Nathan an apology.

Didn't something like this happen when Eddie Murphy picked up a transvestite prostitute on Santa Monica Blvd because he was concerned he/she needed a ride?

According to former employees, Murphy's picked up more than one trasgender hooker "Just to give her a ride" (BTW, "ride", in Irish slang, refers to the sexual act)

Just a coincidence, I'm sure

Umm I would likely bet that very powerful people are involved in this kind of thing and those would want to destroy him. Just like many others before him, You cannot fight Child Pornography without getting slammed by some very power pedophiles.

And we see this all the time, the rumours are all over the net about it. This is a small link in a very long and sorid chain.

"In part, I was Justin," Kurt Eichenwald tells me, because Justin was speaking in part through me."

Hmmmmmm.....

Kurt, you are a man of a certain age, and you are certainly not a teenager. You have been crossing boundaries that you had no business crossing.

This boy is clearly personality disordered (not to mention a pretty capable little entrepreneur) from precisely the kind of dysfunctional narcissistic family that produces people like him.

Now that he has been "saved", he will publish a book. Thanks to you, that will enable him to go on to new heights of self-destruction. And now that he has been re-born, he may even become America's new Jimmy Swaggart.

Your identification with him, your obsession with saving him from himself, and the paranoid ideation from which you are clearly suffering, indicate that you have a narcisstic personality disorder.

Accomplished men of your age who suffer from this disorder frequently exhibit these kinds of symptoms. You are not at all alone - narcissism is all to common among successful men and women in all fields in our society.

There are no support groups for these people to attend, as to be narcisstic is to believe that one is so special that no one else could possibly be wonderful enough to understand YOUR pain.

Your pain is knowing that you are no longer the young man you once were. You wish to save your old young self, and saving this precocious hustler seemed the perfect opportunity for you to do so.

Kurt, you are old enough to know that no one can save anyone else. I have enjoyed reading your important work. You have a a professional calling, and a family to think about.

You will die one day, whether you spend your days in fear of perverts, or getting back to work. Our republic is in mortal peril, and has need of your brains to get us out of it. Come back to your duty as a citizen - your talents are much needed.

I hope that you, or a friend, reads this.

This is a lesson in getting involved with another person's karma..........you had better be ready for what you're doing.

"The Justin thing was two years ago, and it won"t stop! What can I do to make it stop? It will never stop, you just don"t understand."

He gets no sympathy from me. If he keeps hold of the claim that he wasn't acting as a journalists, and was on a rescue mission, then he should have left it that way. The second he used the papers money, his reason for doing it was clear.

Just couldn't stand not getting the credit I guess. So much for altruism.

The lesson here is not what you think it is. The real lesson is that a NYT journalist endured character assassination of the sort newspaper journalists commonly indulge in. He's probably done it himself. The victim gets convicted of being a bad person in the court of journalism by a reporter cherry picking the facts out of context in order to make his case. Without due process, or rebuttal, or appeal. Sentenced to bad reputation forever. Chicago Tribune has done that to me twice. I'm tickled to death to see Eichenwald unable to take what he formerly dished out. Tough luck. Now he knows what it feels like.

These people are evil; they have no humanity and will stop at nothing to protect themselves. Kurt Eichenwald is a hero for going up against them. My heart goes out to him.

They have many shills in the mainstream media, Debbie Nathan and Susie Bright being the most famous; they downplay the horrors of human sex trafficking and all but deny that child porn exists. Their job is to kill the messenger to protect the wider "sex" industry. Don't believe their lies.

Kurt, is that you?

Just curious, but if the teen porn we were referring to was about teens aged 18 and above all this anxiety would be for naught, right?
Have scientists been able to locate the specific transformation which occurs to all boys and girls at age 18 when they magically become adults?
I'm being sarcastic, not because I don't think our children need protection from assault (of any nature) but because clearly the idea of crime here is heavily informed by our religious notion of sexual appropriateness, our almost completely misunderstood notions of human sexuality, an adherence to the letter of the law (always a good way to make people look even stupider than they can be by themselves) and our utterly devoted fascination with all things sexual, the dirtier the better.
