In recent weeks, Republican presidential candidates have found time in their busy schedules to speak or debate before the Republican Jewish Coalition, "Value Voters," conservative Floridians, even Wyoming Republicans, who hold virtually no sway in the primary race. They've also agreed to appear at the CNN/YouTube debate they at one point shunned.

But it appears that some GOP frontrunners are once again letting an opportunity to appear before African-American voters lapse, just as they decided to sit out a black voter forum hosted last month by Tavis Smiley.

2007-10-30-debate.jpgThe Congressional Black Caucus Institute announced in September that it had scheduled a debate for November 4 on Fox News for Republican presidential candidates. But a spokeswoman for the group confirmed to the Huffington Post that it has now been postponed, with no new date set.

"The debate will not take place on November 4, and we're still considering the debate schedule," said CBC Institute spokesperson Georgella Muirhead.

Republican candidates have cited scheduling conflicts in resisting new proposed dates, Muirhead said.

"It's the same issue they had with some of the other debates," she added. "We're getting a new working date, that's what's being considered."

The CBC Political Education and Leadership Institute is a non-profit organization linked to the Congressional Black Caucus, which includes 43 African-American members of the House and Senate.

The leading GOP campaigns were coy about whether they planned to attend the rescheduled CBC/Fox News debate when contacted by the Huffington Post. Of the frontrunners, only Mitt Romney's campaign said he was considering attending.

"The debate was canceled before we confirmed our participation one way or another," said spokesman Stephen Smith. "We were considering this debate before it was canceled. As soon as we have rescheduled dates, we will consider them, it depends on when it's scheduled."

The campaign of Rep. Ron Paul said he would "try very hard" to attend the rescheduled event.

In September, the Huffington Post reported that the Republican frontrunners would all sit out the African-American voter forum at Baltimore's Morgan State University. The debate's hosts set up four empty lecterns to highlight the absence of the leaders in the race for the 2008 nomination. The candidates who did appear, such as Paul and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, criticized their opponents for failing to reach out to African-American voters.

Earlier this month, the question of reaching out to minority voters again emerged when Senator McCain confirmed he would attend a December Spanish-language forum hosted by the Univision network.

The CBC Institute has confirmed a January 17 debate on CNN featuring the Democratic presidential candidates. Earlier in the year, all but three of the Democratic hopefuls had boycotted another debate planned by the CBC Institute and Fox News after party membership objected to the idea of appearing on the conservative-oriented network.

Darn those scheduling conflicts. These are the same conflicts that kept getting in the way of ending segragation in the South fo a long time. And these scheduling conflics seem to affect only Republicans.

Maybe Freak McClurkin can get them to reconsider. They owe him for helping to further divide two Democratic constituencies from one another.

The Republican Party stands for BIGOTRY, LIES, THIEVERY, CRONYISM, and BLOODLETTING. These are criminals of the highest order.

Not every "white man" is a Republican and there are many "white men" who support equality and fairness amongst all Americans.

Ron Paul has never had a scheduling conflict with anyone and has been to every debate invited to.
He also received a standing ovation at a Black SC college in August.(one commenter was reported to say that Dr.Paul received the longest applause he had ever heard from this debate, that is held every year.)
It was after Dr. Paul announced he would end the unconstitutional war on drugs, and issue the immediate release of those jailed on minor drug offenses and wanting to offer them help. He says by doing this, it will save the country billions in legal fees and incarceration charges to the states...
He received his second standing ovation when he announced his plan to end the war immediately..
saving 2 billion dollars a week automatically.
He can not understand the fact that after a country declares "mission accomplished" why they elect to remain on the battlefield after they have announced they have "prevailed".
Bring our troops home now!

Go Ron Paul

I found this video of Aaron Russo from a blogger and thought it was interesting.

It is so funny to hear Dems sound like Republicans...
I have to look at which site I am on they sound so much a like....
These certain republicans need help...Just like Feinstein, Lieberman and Clinton need help...
The trolls you speak of are hidden and cloaked...
They cut across party lines.
The sooner the people wake up to the fact the parties have split and sides have been chosen, the better off we will be.
Do not lump all republicans in one boat...I know of many who are sick of these values brought in their name...They are not heard, because the neocon voice is louder.
But these people exist. If we want our country back, we will need these people to do it.
After all, who knows the enemy better then the ones in their own camp.
People like Bruce Fine and Ron Paul.
This is the latest bil;l written by a republican, severely degrading the presidents powers and restoring our constitution.
I have not seen a bill like this from a Democrat...Not even Dennis Kucinich goes this far.
Please read it.
It is called the freedom agenda act of 2007.

Then after it is all said and done, and the progressives have prevailed, we must turn this country to left so hard it would scare even Bernie Sanders!

So lets go...
Wake up...
Get behind a candidate and support the one you think has a good voting record and is upstanding with morals to help us get back to our way of life and true American values.
We have no room for mistake, make sure you trust who you vote for and LEARN THEIR RECORD!

The "progessives" ...aka "liberals" will never prevail. Why do you think they renamed themselves? Because liberalism is doomed.

Last time Bush went to NAACP they sabotaged him. I guess these guys are smart enough not to stick their necks out. Republicans going to a black conference would be a set-up.

Sabotaged as in "not staged and screened for friendly voters".

So when you say they "sabotaged him," what specifically are you referring to? Do you even understand what the purpose of a debate is? The GOP candidates are not "smart enough," they're simply afraid of having to answer for the fact that they could not care less about the black vote. That has been clear since this nation's birth.

That's not true. Blacks used to vote Republican overwhelmingly. They were the party to free the slaves and the southern block used to be democrat. A shift happened though within the civil rights movement when blacks moved to the democratic side of the fence in support. Those former southern block democrats, then became republicans, and those are the same assholes who care less about our vote.

Do you mean by "sabotaged" do you mean he wasn't able to pack the audience with Bush supporters like his handlers usually do?

No, he didn't -- he said George Bush doesn't care about black people.

Why people feel the need to keep making this nonsense up is beyond me, but I think its because it plays into the racism and prejudice already inherent in this society.

It was the same thing when Whoopi Goldberg spoke out AGAINST Michael Vick -- people tried to twist her words into a defense of his position (the "culture" comment, which had nothing to do with black culture specifically) based on their own prejudices and assumptions.

What I find amusing is that here we (I assume are mostly, if not all, white) are discussing a report by a white blogger about a group of all-white candidates snubbing a black caucus.

It reminds me of this cartoon: http://www.xoverboard.com/cartoons/2006/2006_04_10.html

Why in the world would you make that assumption?

Apparently my comment was out of place. My mistake.

At the time I made it, the majority of comments were leaning towards "Gosh, what's wrong with that?" and "But, but, but...".

What would you take from that?

Republicans are weak, cowardly, under-educated and over zealous. They will only talk with those who they agree with. They are not concerned with what Black people think because they believe Black people are only important to them as athletes or entertainers.

Republicans like to trot out their token Black leaders to fend off the racists tags. Condi and Clarence are the two most well known. But when it comes to caring about the needs that are indigenous to Blacks, they just don't give a fuck.

How many NON-WHITE, NON-MALE candidates have the Republicans fielded? I doubt you can name a serious Republican candidate period. They are all sheep herders and sychophants.

While you wallow in your hate, let me remind you that it will probably be one of their own that brings this arm of the republican party down.
The Democrats do not have enough nerve or influence.
To hate all republicans is being, well, republican...
I thought Dems were different?
Apparently not....
Party before people just like the republicans in power.
