Bruce Springsteen should be very happy. He has the No. 1 album, a possible Grammy for Best Album of the Year, for "Magic," an album full of singles, and a sold-out concert tour.

Alas, there's a hitch: Radio will not play "Magic." In fact, sources tell me that Clear Channel has sent an edict to its classic rock stations not to play tracks from "Magic." But it's OK to play old Springsteen tracks such as "Dancing in the Dark," "Born to Run" and "Born in the USA."

Just no new songs by Springsteen, even though it's likely many radio listeners already own the album and would like to hear it mixed in with the junk offered on radio.

This just illustrates the need for trust busting. Hillary, smash Murdoch and the media monopoly to bits. We want our air waves back, because we own them. Why should we be force fed this horshit. Most Americans hate conservatives right now, and were being told what we have to chose from. Ya, go fuck yourself. These guys need a good ass kicking. Go Boss, your the best!

Clear Channel sucks. Corporate radio sucks. Glad we have other options these days, although I do miss when radio used to be worth listening to. A small station out on Long Island - WEMH - plays Magic regularly. It is a good station, and is radio the way it once was and still should be.

it wouldn't be so bad if a station here and there refused to play something; that's always been done. But, somehow, Clear Channel has acquired almost ALL of radio ! Isn't that like a violation of some kind of law or something ? Just wondering.

ClearChannel is Eric Prince's favorite Olde Tymie radio company.

But they'll put bigass billboards of Hooters and hoochie mamas up on the highway- Howard Stern and Bruce, not so much.

Boycott ClearChannel and theer sponsors- they are owned by the Religious Right nutjobs.

Reminds me of the 60'a when many radio channels would not play Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young or Hendrix or Rolling Stones and many others because they might have an anti war message. It was tagged as "Underground Music".

It didn't hurt the artists popularity much - just made everybody want to buy their albums that much more so they could hear them.

This is really where the anti war effort started in the 60's - with underground music. Maybe that's where it will have to start this time too.

So do as I did....I bought the CD...one for me, one for my son, one for my other son and a couple more for friends.....all for XMAS, so they got them a little early...like for Halloween. Frankly, I did the same with the Dixie Chicks. If Bush and his Christian Right buddies don't want me to hear the CD on the radio, well then fellas, I will just buy the damn thing. The D. Chicks ended up winning every award in sight after that moron Toby Keith made a fool of himself and radio wouldn't play their CD. Bruce will simply win in the long run. There are more of us than them. Fight on!

But its the only scum in town, so you get not much choice, just like our political parties, our religions, our press, our cable, our walmart, our GM foods, our homogenized, pasteuried, sanitized, colonized, traitorized, existence.

Basically, America, you're fucked.

I have a cousin who is a Classic Rock Jock and he can't play anything later then 1992...station policy.

Of course they don't play it on Classic Rock. By definition, a new album is not Classic Rock! Older stuff is classic Rock. This is just really really stupid. Big huge DUH!

You're wrong. There is classic rock, and Classic Rock. classic rock is the old stuff, although not all the old stuff, but mostly stuff from the late 60s 70s (not the Monkees, Everly Brothers, Beach Boys, etc). Classic Rock is a genre, where the old stuff style is continued. So you'll hear Classic Rock station playing new stuff, that is a continuation of the old stuff (well, at least not things like Disco, hip hop, techno, rave, beat, etc).

Bruce is as Classic as they get.

Of course, now a days, a lot of Classic Rock is trying to cross over into Country, and Country folk tip their (straw) hats to Classic Rock.

Basically, white boys and their air guitars meeting good old boys with their toe tapping boots.

Call your local radio station. Ask them to play it. Call again. Keep calling. Ask them to play "Please, Mr. President" by Pink, too.

Once again neocon radio megacorporation flexes its power and says f**k no to free speech. Nice job, neocons.

This has nothing to do with free speech. No one is prosecuting mr. springsteen for his speech. He isn't being imprisoned so he can't speak. The government isn't threatening the owners of any media to stop them from playing the album.

Clearchannel is free to air whatever the hell they want on the stations they own. If you don't like it (and that would be perfectly american of you) then go start your own station.

Please, for your own sake, don't use the phrase "free speech" again until you have some idea of what it means.

sdskelton03, you are so unAmerican, it's unbelievable. You don't get to buy up and own every radio station. This is why the media is down the tubes thanks to Murdoch. This is how you get fascism. I'm sure you're fine with that. Clear Channel and the FCC are doing the Right's bidding.

A thought. Why do I have to pay to get uncensored TV (cable) and radio (Siris)? If someone wants to have it censored or edited then I think they are the ones who should be paying. Why do I have to buy my free speech?
