Most consumers are familiar with do-not-call lists, which are meant to keep telemarketers from phoning them. Soon people will be able to sign up for do-not-track lists, which will help shield their Web surfing habits from the prying eyes of marketers.

Such lists will not reduce the number of ads that people see online, but they will prevent advertisers from using their online meanderings to deliver specific ad pitches to them.

Today the AOL division of Time Warner will announce a service of this type, which will be up and running by the end of the year. Other programs are likely to be articulated soon, as online advertisers prepare for a two-day forum on privacy to be held by the Federal Trade Commission.

Do not use anything by Microsoft, or Google ...use free software like Mozilla Fiefox, scroogle scraper and ubuntu.
Also stay away from verizon and at&t . These companies will sell you out and betray your privacy.
If you wnat people to know everything about you then use this stuff by all means.

AOL is doing what? There is bound to be a grand glitch, the mother of all glitches. In the past AOL has tried to sell and pass off fish feces as lox. Before I'll ever trust AOL, I'll, I'll, watch Larry King Live.

I want a text-only browser that'll confine
their crap to one side or the other of whatever
web page you're looking at. They can data-mine
to their heart's content(I firmly believe
they'll do it anyway, ability+lack of regulation
=permission) just as long as I get to do what
I want. Too bad they can't track all the
mega-spammers, or maybe they HIRE them? Hmmm...

Anybody surfing the net without and strong firewall and proxy server are asking for it. To trust your privacy to ANYONE other than yourself is insane.

Internet ethics are maturing, right behind the advances in technology. This maturing process will continue with further advances - but we must be diligent and pursue higher ethical standards.
