Mukasey Confirmation Shakey

AP :

Prospects for Michael Mukasey's confirmation as the nation's 81st attorney general dimmed Wednesday after he again refused to equate waterboarding with torture and endorsed many of President Bush's positions on executive power.

Even his chief Democratic patron, Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, refused to say whether he would vote for Mukasey during the Judiciary Committee's consideration of the nomination.

An Attorney General who will not take a stand against torture cannot be confirmed no matter how good a judge he may be. Bush needs to be stopped and not allowing him to "get his way" like a spoiled child on this matter is paramount to our freedom.

Really--why ARE the Democrats willing to give a pass to a 'marginally independent' nominee? Is our Justice Department not important enough to make them stand their ground? Have they NOT been duped enough by Bush nominees who claim to such 'integrity' then check that integrity at the door as soon as they enter their office? What EXACTLY will it take for us and our representatives to stand up and take our own government back??

I'm wondering when the Dems are going to cave on the Mukasey nomination. After all they haven't used the "I don't want to be labeled an obstructionist" excuse for a long time. If a person went into hibernation before election day last November and woke up today, they would swear that the Republicans maintained their majority. What a pity!

In the beginning I thought it didn't matter if they confirmed him or not after all he would only be babysitting the position for a little over a year but I have changed my mind and am ashamed of myself for this idiotic reasoning.
Muksasey should NOT be confirmed if he does not agree that waterboarding is torture.

Mukashey says he wants to "look at waterboarding to see if its legal or not." Forget legality, I think he should submit to a demonstration to see if it at least hurts or not.

Are the people who write for that Fox Nazi show '24' in bed with this dark force occupying our highest office? That's all they seem to promote in their show, how they have no choice but to act like Nazis because... well, there is a bomb about to blow up and the only way to get the answer is to torture.

There is the "ideal" and the "practical". Ideally, torture will never be used. Practically, it's an interrogation method that works. Ideally, Mukasey will say that torture(water boarding) is illegal. Practically, if he were to say that, he would never be selected by the BUSHIES to be AG. The best thing the Senate could do is to reject him.

"The evangelicals' dissatisfaction reflects a general GOP discontent. According to the Pew poll, Republicans are less likely than Democrats to say that their own party is concerned about people like themselves, can bring needed change or is more honest or ethical.

"Overall, 50 percent of Americans identified themselves as Democrats or leaning toward Democrats, compared to 36 percent who consider themselves Republicans or GOP leaners, Pew found. That is the largest gap in almost 20 years of Pew surveys, and a big change since 2002, when the two parties were even at 43 percent each."

When the White House protests with goofy comments like "not ready to declare him DOA" it's over.

Mukasey is the Donald Rumsfield of this month. By next month he'll be dumped overboard.

Don't you just love our little neocon trolls here?

They talk tough about violating international law and are all macho and manly here.

I'm sure they drive HUGE manly trucks as overcompensation and watch macho sports like 'rasslin' and NASCAR.

I've taken on cheap dimestore bullies like them repeatedly my whole life. Big talk and little balls meant most of them backed down pretty damn quick.

Pity the poor trolls, urge them back into humanity and out of their mothers basements.

And above all......make fun of the assholes every chance you get.

and...

have a nice day :D xxoo SI

Common decency:
Just because they do it to us, doesn't mean we have to lower ourselves to their level.

Common troll (Or any child):
If they do it to us, we should be able to do it to them.

This apparently is what they teach their children as well.

What FINE Christians these hypocrites are!

Mukasey is no better than Gonzales even though he doesn't look like a craven butt boy. Torture? No problem. Unlimited Executive powers? No problem. Bush wants to invade Iran? What do you think?
