Britney Blackout

Billboard:

Britney Spears looks to have a clear path to top The Billboard 200.

First-day sales from the eight chains that report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Charts put Spears' Jive/Zomba release "Blackout" at 124,000 on the report released today (Oct. 31).

That is more than double the number of units posted by Carrie Underwood's chart-topping "Carnival Ride," which rounded up 49,000 sales from the start of the tracking week through close of business yesterday. That album is currently in the runner-up position.

It's going to be an interesting one to watch ... I'd guess it will start at the top then slide really quickly, but I kind of hope it doesn't.

I'm told the music is good, if dance is what you're into. So what I really want to know now is since she's doing no official publicity for it -- no interviews, TV guest appearances etc. -- and the only other publicity she's getting right now is bad publicity, is the music alone enough to make the record a success?

I hope it is. But I'm not counting on it.

Her CD will debut at #1 then go nowhere fast. Her hardcore base will buy it. Beyond that, her CD will not sell at all. So relax everyone sheesh!

Britney sucks and is a no-talent. Duh. Her career is over. She will not sell anywhere near what Carrie Underwood will do longterm. She probably won't even do 750,000 overall.

Seeing what popular music consists of in this country,I'm not surprised this piece of crap opus is at the top of the charts.

And when she OD's sometime next year,we can look forward to years and years of BS about the "Queen of Pop" who died tragically...

I find it impossible to care.

Music appreciation is practically nonexistent in this country - just look at the history of the grammies, or what passes for commercial radio.

As an interesting aside, there is the more important question: does public taste determine the product we hear and see on commercial radio and TV, or does the product we are force-fed by radio and TV determine public taste. Defenders of capitalism usually argue the first case, while secretly knowing it is really the second.

It is pop music for god sakes. lighten up ming.

The american public is all about pop culture. Be it glow in the dark crucifix, drive thru dining, faux reality tv, repugnican family values, etc., etc., ad nauseam

Actually, I have to agree with what I've read. It's her best to date (although I'm no authority, having only owned the Oops... album and Toxic single).

It looks like she's starting to go the Madonna-businesswoman route and doing more of her own producing... as opposed to the Madonna-whore route, which tends to get nowhere fast.

...........BOY....there are quite a few people in our midst who have NO TASTE in music.....

........this vapid skank will make another million or six...allowing her to become an even BIGGER train wreck and funding her 'I DON' WANNA BE MAMA NO MO' tour.......wonder if KFed will leave the boys with a nanny or a bodyguard to be a backup dancer on the tour.......
....the record debuting at #1 means all the 12 and 13 year old wannabe skanks got their allowances early and didnt spend it wisely.....
