60 Minutes has identified the man whose fabricated story of Iraqi biological weapons drove the U.S. argument for invading Iraq. It has also obtained video of "Curve Ball," as he was known in intelligence circles, and discovered he was not only a liar, but also a thief and a poor student instead of the chemical engineering whiz he claimed to be.

60 Minutes correspondent Bob Simon's two-year investigation will be broadcast this Sunday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Curve Ball is an Iraqi defector named Rafid Ahmed Alwan, who arrived at a German refugee center in 1999. To bolster his asylum case and increase his importance, he told officials he was a star chemical engineer who had been in charge of a facility at Djerf al Nadaf that was making mobile biological weapons.

The SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT issue revealed on 60 Minutes was that "Curveball" was completely discredited by the CIA a full THREE WEEKS before the invasion of Iraq.

I am convinced bush and cheney knew Iraq had no WMD . .. they just tried lied to the public in order to go after oil . . . they were aided and abetted by the GOPs and some Dems . .. they are war criminals and they have to be impeached before they start another war to evade criminal proceedings against them and their buddies.

After watching the 60 Minutes piece on CurveBall I'm convinced the whole 60 Minutes program was a WH/CIA production. The show is a nice intriguing story that takes you to a very unsatisfying conclusion, that Curveball did all this mischief on his own to gain German residence. This is a hanger that even Curveball wouldn't dare throw.

Yhe CBS story is lies. I knew Curveball in the late 80's. His name is Ahmed Foley. He ran a bodega in the Bronx. I would drink beer in the back room with him (he was a poor example for other Muslims). He would spin tales about Iraq to me but I never believed him. Evidently someone did.

This CBS Spin is almost as bad as the Whitehouse's:

1) Powell is not the one who made the decision to include that crap in the U.N. speech. Powell read a speech based on faith in the credibility and integrity of those who handed it to him.

2) This CBS report creates the impression of "plausible deniability" on Tenet's part by focusing on the letter from Germany, LEAVING OUT the part about his conversation with CIA Euro Chief Drumheller the night before the speech:

"Hey Boss, be careful with that German report. It's supposed to be taken out. There are a lot of problems with that." [Tenet] said: "Yeah, yeah. Right. Dont worry about that."

That's what you call radical selective omission, otherwise known as supreme bullshit, on CBS's part. Plus what does sensationalist focus on Curveball the person accomplish? As if being a phenomenal bullshitter required a degree in Chemistry, or even a high school degree. As if he actually fooled anyone.

Keeps the focus off the actual crimes, off the DAMAGE that has been done and what can be done about it. Like kicking Mukasey to the curb without a second thought, for being mealy-mouthed about all the unitary branch executive privilege signing statement bullshit when questioned about his qualifications for the job of Attorney General! Nevermind waterboarding; goes with the territory.

Part of what has been going on here is this Administration and it's 'peeps' have been behind an effort since before 9/11 to undermine the CIA and move all that 'work' over to the Pentagon and elsewhere in order to circumvent what integrity and veteran wisdom exists among CIA oldtimers who do the gruntwork AND to circumvent the checks and oversight put in place on the CIA after the Churchill Commission etc., with FISA among other things.

Discrediting the CIA works to that end. Trust me, our new Defense Secretary, Gates, Contra heyday Casey's protege, is in on it.

I wonder is he was a friend of Chailbi's? He sure knew what this administration was bending its ear to hear!

The false WMD story goes from Cheney to Chalabi to Cousin Curveball to CIA, and back to Cheney. Perhaps with a mid-east cutout to take Curveball to Germans. That's why the Dick was spending so much time over at CIA.

So much of the reasoning for the Iraq war was a lie--why is it Bush needs to keep us there?
Ka-ching!

And if there was no "curve ball" heading across the plate then they would have gone to the bullpen for a "slider". No torture required, simple apply.

General Childers staes, "Here I have to disagree with George Friedman, and
was considering doing it earlier since I received this same article from
other sources. Major General Georges Sada, Iraqi Air Force Retired, wrote a
book which is titled "Saddam's Secrets," and if you read it then you might
better understand where I am coming from on this Friedman article. One of
his startling revelations, is the fact that the Iraqi's had prepared flights
armed with various gas mixtures and which were planned for drops on Tel
Aviv, as well later on to be done again on the one side of Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia where the Royal family reside and where government offices are
located. Saddam did not expect his planes or pilots to return, but decided
that he would always remain a Hero in the eyes of all Arabs, if her
succeeded with his plans- and he firmly believed this according to General
Sada.

Another important revelation, was that Saddam had cleverly made
temporary agreements with the Iranians, and in that agreement it was stated
that if "sanctions "were imposed on Iraq by the US. and/or the UN, as
occurred both before and during the "oil for food program," then Iraq would
ship their oil to Iran via truck convoys and shore line boats and small
ships. The reason
they could do it is that oil consistencies have different properties, and so
they can be determined to be of either Iraqi or Iranian origins, thus
allowing them to by-pass the sanctions, since they were not selling the oil
directly from Iraq as that was prohibited by the US./UN sanctions.

Saddam must have had a great laugh over our foolishness, that is, in
relying on UN inspectors to control this very lucrative exchange of oil and
gas products. In the end, UN inspectors (usually from third world nations)
were bribed to look the other way, as trucks and small ship convoys
criss-crossed the old and new roads and waterways between Iraq and Iran
exchanging the oil products."

Being little more than a gangster himself, Cheney likes to deal with other crooks like Chalabi. It cuts out all that sell-serving moralizing about right and wrong and gets right down to what's important in his world.... money and power.

The whole thing has been a multi-billion-dollar
bullshit story from the beginning, this liar's
club deserves to be impeached.
