I recently received the first season of SNL on DVD. One of the funniest things on it is Madeline Kahn dressed as Lady Frankenstein singing "I Feel Pretty." It makes no sense at all, but it's so damn funny!
I thought the D--k in a box thing was really boring. It was a 3-minute video with only one joke in it. I compare that to being trapped in an elevator with a 9-year-old who just learned his first dirty word. "I heard you the first time, kid. You can shut up now."
Deep House Dish?!
Sorry, but that's when I go to the kitchen.
I don't think the offer to the Beatles should be on the list. It was awesome but not really a musical skit.
I didn't like Lazy Sunday either but my son loved it. I have to admit that I loved Dick in a Box and Salvation Army/Homelessville (which I wouldn't have minded seeing on the list) and More Cowbell cracks me up any time I see it.
Tut and Chopping broccoli are both deserving of top 15 honours... both so memorable after all these years.
OH, and I was happy not to see Operaman or the Sweeney's on the list!! I could have done without the Culps too.
I'd add Ferrell's Robert Goulet and Murphy & Piscopo singing Ebony and Ivory. I'd replace Little Richard Simmons with Murphy's James Brown's Hot Tub Party. One of my all time faves.
DAMN Eddie Murphy is so funny. I remember the first time I saw SNL they had those commercials and we couldnt figure out it they were real commercials or not. God the world was so different then.
This list starts off really well, with citations of SNL in its glory days. I'd put Candy Slice at number 1, no offense to Mr. Belushi.
I am pleasantly surprised, even shocked, that the editors gave priority to early SNL--kudos. And yes, King Tut should've been in there.
Otherwise, you could subtitle this "The Decline and Fall of SNL." Sorry, I find the majority of these sketches painfully unfunny and downright unwatchable. It has been at least a decade since I've been able to sit through an entire SNL.
The "Cowbell" sketch, for instance--the main idea is amusing once or twice, tops. Repetition doesn't make it funnier.
How could they not have Steve Martin's "King Tut" on that list?
This is such a totally boring news item. Frankly, I had hoped that Huffington Post News would be a useful alternative to the Drudge Report. But I'm finding it less and less the first place I go to for news. I could do a better job picking articles than this.
