Brian Williams' SNL Diet: Doritos, Reese's And A Year-Old Coke

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

On Wednesday night "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams spoke with Conan O'Brien about his upcoming stint hosting "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, including the hectic schedule involved in anchoring the news, hosting the Democratic debate in Philadelphia, and pulling all-nighters with the cast to write the show. Watch:

Conan also asked Williams what would happen in the event of a news emergency and posed a hypothetical: "You're doing the show, you're doing a sketch where you play Papa Smurf... [and] suddenly someone comes rushing in and says that they just captured Osama bin Laden and you have to rush on air as Papa Smurf? Could it happen? Would it?" Williams said that he thought there would be a "news outfit standing by" just in case, but did not seem too concerned: "Should there be an emergency, we will deal with it." Phew, the news is safe!

He then mocked Conan's Papa Smurf reference, saying "The 80s called, they wondered how you were." Williams is scheduled to host SNL tomorrow night; blue makeup TBA.

Brian Williams was SO good on SNL. Anyone who watched the show will agree he was spot on from the very beginning. I love this guy!

I try and watch Williams on the evening news.

I can't take. Mostly because there is NO NEWS on the News.

It's all this feature crap. On every show there is something about cancer. And new miracle cures for diseases you've never heard of. (hows your medical stock portfolio doing Brian? Must be pretty good since you pump it every night.)

And of course a feature on "people doing good."

So there is never any time for actual news.

No wonder this country is in the mess we're in.

Williams ................................. Who?

Friend of Bush.

Friend of Cheney.

Friend of Gonzo.

Friend of Rummy.

Reporter? NO!

SNL should head to cable so they will no longer have

to pander to their parent company's shills.

Brian. Alumnus, not alumna. I'm shocked and disappointed at your literacy level being no better than your semi-literate peers. I had such hopes for you too.

"-- It's journalistically appalling that Katie Couric is hosting "Saturday Night Live" this weekend. In an era when journalism and entertainment have already grotesquely mated to the point where "ET" actually seems like a news program, this move by Couric and NBC can only increase the damage. ...

-- Oh, wait. She's not hosting ... Brian Williams is hosting "Saturday Night Live." Well, then, never mind. Fantastic idea! It's a chance for Williams to stretch and be funny and accepted! Brilliant!"

Yeah, but 2006 was a good year for Coke.

If people are saying he's funny because of his White House Correspondent's bit, that's a pretty poor example. There's a big difference between a 30 second bit and a 90 minute show.

For my money, Tom Brokaw can improvise. Not only on the Today show but also in some cameos on Letterman's old NBC slot. I was pleasantly surprised.
