Illinois Sen. Barack Obama leveled a fresh round of criticism at New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday, accusing his rival for the Democratic nomination of following a campaign plan that prizes calculation over candor and that is aimed more at winning an election than uniting the country.

Obama used a speech in Spartanburg, S.C., to sharpen his differences with the Democratic front-runner and to frame the choices before the voters a year before the 2008 election. Calling Clinton "a colleague and a friend," Obama nonetheless cast her as representative of a style of politics that has been better for the politicians than the country

There have been numerous attempts in the past to "unite the nation" by politicians far more experienced and adept than Obama. All have failed for the obvious reason that our nation is made up of large groups with radically different interests. Obama cannot unite our country either. In fact, uniting the country is not even a good idea nor is it a sound policy. The best one can hope for is occasional compromises among opposing poles. Obama should give up his silly notion that he can "unite the country". What a waste of energy.

Wow. Well, all that's left to say is, just don't whine and cry when the Repugs take it again. I mean it, too. I'll be first here on the scene to remind you.

But let me offer you a preview of the coming attractions before I leave for the day:

President Rudy, Oval Office
R: We did it, we WON!!!! Those Dems, what FOOLS! (yuk yuk yuk)

Rove: Told ya, Rudy! All we hadda do was let 'em self-destruct! (chuckle) Ever see such gang of dimwits? We didn't even need those religious nutz this time. (ha ha ha)
The Dems. Gotta love 'em. They were so bitterly divided they didn't even need our help this time !
(sinister chuckle)

R: gotta run, Karl. Judith's calling. She wants me, like NOW!
Something about my daily enema.

I think this nation will vote for the candidate that proves the most moderate.
That's where Hillary has the edge. She's appealing to the moderates. Just like GWB did in 2000. His 2nd term win wouldn't have happened had it not been for Iraq. Voters feared changing Generals in mid-stream, so to speak, which won him a freebie term because, face it, Kerry didn't come off as a better General. But here comes Hillary and I think she's here to stay because she's convinced enough moderates she shares MOST of their agenda's. No voter expects 100% agreement with their favorite candidate. Moderates will elect Hillary, not die hard and stubborn Dems who could very well pull off what Nader voters did in 2000. Just think, had Gore won...nevermind. Too painful a thought since...look at us now.

The only candidate I see with a chance of overtaking Hillary is Edwards. And quite frankly, lets be realistic. His wife has inoperable cancer. How focused to you think he can stay on this country's needs?

Obama?
Nice fantasy. But I liked him better before he was pressured to put the gloves on. Just not him, imo. I also think his 'winning' the Hollywood big donors-race and also Oprah Winfrey's Obama-shindig for 'elite only' wasn't helpful. The press, of course, made it worse by reporting the details of that thing and I believe it turned off Obama-maybe's. Obama needs to be Obama and not allow himself to be used .

There is nobody else with even a prayer. It's Clinton or Edwards, sorry folks. Richardson, I wish he was more viable. True, Clinton has had a hard week and if she intends to keep her top spot she knows a couple of those back to back might be fatal.
But unless that happens, it's Hillary we all better get down with because she's going to be the Democrats nomination for President.

Nobody could be more suited for Rudy than Hillary. It'll be a no-contest win, of course, but I'm looking forward to her pulverizing that moron. :)

The fact is that no matter what any candidate specifically says he or she will do as president is not exactly relevant as seen by Bush....remember no nation building, compassionate conservatism, etc.

There are specifics that are put out everyday, but when you get to the actual office, you are not there to say, this is what will happen...remember you have a congress and senate to deal with as well!

I think it will serve Obama well if he realizes this now. Promises is politics are not to be trusted, but if you don't make then and try as hard as you can to get the issue dealt with in the way you want then you come out a winner!

When a candidate start doing the mudslinging, instead of telling the american what they're doing to do to fix the problems of USA cause by DUMBYA and how they'll do it, that person already shows they're not worth a damn thing to be President.

Obama never failed to amaze me with his downright stupidity, shooting off his mouth, never state his clearly what he's going to do for America and the american people, how he is going to fix the problems created by Bush with US allies that turned sour towards USA.

There are two very progressive candidates that want to fix the broken government.

Edwards and Paul.

They are not electable, so who can change the broken government who can get elected?

The Clintons.

If you want character you have to write off Guiliani and Mitt Romney. Two of the biggest tiangulars, flip floppers and well liars that every were.

Rudy wont talk about his mistakes, his personal life and the fact that even his kids would not support him and Romney just says whatever the GOP and polls tell him too even though he ran in Mass. on the opposite side of the same issues. UGH

And you complain about Hilliary?
By the way Obama pretty much votes the same as Hilliary unless he is skipping a vote.

Bill Promises Hillary ,"DONT WORRY" Together Will Fool Them Again. Clinton's hold over the American media has been illustrated by their successful attempt to "kill" a negative magazine story about Mrs Clinton's presidential campaign.

Mr's Clinton Continues to Blame Tim Russert for her dismal performance in last Tuesday's Debate. The Clinton political war machine is now in full spin and damage control after the american voter has seen the incompetence of there leading Candidate.

We need to move on and up as a country toward solving the complex issues we will face in the next decade or we will be leaving nothing to our children and grandchildren.

I wish Gore was running but so far, he's not. Any Democrat running would be better than putting any Republican back in the oval office. I would rather see Democrats take complete control of things and then there would no excuse for NOT bringing real change.

Imagine! Campaign finance reform, independence from foreign oil and development of alternative energy sources, universal health care, fully funded schools, kids going to college or trade school, tolerance for differences, the U.S. representing high moral ground to the international community for a change! Maybe.. wow (imagine!) maybe we could even end the failed, War on Drugs, and use the money to pay to protect our borders! ... oh maybe we won't need to because the rest of the world will not HATE us so much! The possibilities are endless.. it feels like .. hope!

Vote for any Democrat this election.

I agree with Obama's comments re Hillary's campaign. Her "textbook" has yet to give me one reason to support her in the primaries. Obama has said one of his first tasks as president would be a reversal of all the unconstitutional policies of the Bush cabal. Richardson wants all military out of Iraq in 3 months. Kucinich sees the importance of impeachment, if not a war crimes trial. Edwards speaks to the struggling middle-class. But I have yet to hear Hillary say anything decisive about anything important to me.
The gloves MUST come off - especially against the insanity of Bush's destructive reign - but also to clarify the differences between our Dem candidates. This is probably the most crucial election I can remember over my long lifespan - it's not a time to make nice - it's a time to remove the gloves and punch away.
