The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Sunday he is bothered by Michael Mukasey's refusal to say whether waterboarding is torture but will support his nomination for attorney general anyway.

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., joins two key Senate Democrats in saying he will back Mukasey because the retired judge has said that if Congress passes a law banning waterboarding, "the president would have absolutely no legal authority to ignore such a law."

There is absolutely no reason Specter should change is pro torture position. Mukasey will insure that no crimes are charged.

Well for heaven's sakes..Specter always votes bush's way. He huffs and puffs and capitulates every dang time. However, it should be noted that the cowardly bully in the WH said he would not submit another candidate..which means a 'vacation' appointee...and that would last til Jan 20, 2009. AND that could be devastating because that person would not ever feel obligated to play by the rules or the constitution or the geneva agreement. And of course, Schumer is the one who submitted Mukasky's name to bush. Either way..there are no guts in the Dems and no ethical integrity in the GOPs.

We all know that there is nothing in the world that Mukasey could have said that would cause Arlen Specter to vote against him. There's no surprise here. Specter has never done anything more than talk. When push comes to shove, he lines up with Bush every time.
