TMZ has obtained portions of a secret document from David Copperfield's shows, outlining in extreme detail how the magician's assistants were supposed to rope in the women that David found attractive -- and hold their boyfriends and husbands at bay.

The document, titled "Show Participation," requires the people who work David's shows to arm themselves with clipboards, a Polaroid camera, a digital camera, brochures of David's islands in the Bahamas and "Blank photo(s) of David (if one of the girls is a scorpion)." "Scorpion" refers to women David brings onstage as part of his act.

Um, if you're really a magician, wouldn't you have found a way to make the documents disappear to some filing cabinet in the sky?

What an idiot. You get what you deserve.

Next, we'll have a reality show with this putz trying to escape from his holding cell.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I worked for several years at a theatre and Copperfield performed there 4 times while I worked there. Part of my job was to make sure the performers had everything they needed in the dressing rooms... that meant I often had to be disappointed by former favourites.

Copperfield was an exception. He was always kind and undemanding and worked well with all of the stage hands. He would spend time backstage playing with his dogs and on the one occasion when he was there with Claudia Schiffer, they were both very easy.

Because of the technical aspects of his show, he spent much more time in the building than most performers so I've had 3 full days of exposure to him and still think highly of him... that's rare.

I never saw women being brought back to the dressing rooms and my only disappointment with him is that he didn't stay to sign autographs for the many fans who gathered outside.

I find that the way performers treat staff at a venue to be a good indicator of their real personalities. I haven't been able to watch Dustin Hoffman since being "lucky" enough to have met him (self-obsessed and whiny in the extreme!!). Natalie Cole became a favourite of mine after I met her.. such a genuine and funny woman. I can't see Don Rickles on television without remembering when his robe accidentally opened while he was talking to me... at least I hope it was an accident. He was kind of adorable and funny other than that.

I suppose a story about Copperfield being a nice guy and easy to work with wouldn't fly on TMZ ...

after the initial wincing at reading this, I have come to admire the efficiency of the clipboards and whatnot. why re-invent the wheel?
