With the support of Schumer, Feinstein and the committee's nine Republicans, Mukasey has garnered enough support to clear the panel and move to the Senate floor.

Before Feinstein's announcement, sent to the media by e-mail at about 4:28 p.m., the nomination had seemed in doubt, especially after Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) announced his opposition to Mukasey at a 3 p.m. news conference in Burlington, Vt. Leahy became the fifth Judiciary Committee Democrat to announce his opposition over Mukasey's refusal to state explicitly that the interrogation technique known as waterboarding constitutes torture.

Hours before Leahy's press conference, however, Schumer in a telephone call already had laid out his thoughts to the chairman and also relayed a message that Feinstein had planned to support the nominee, according to aides.

But Schumer and Feinstein withheld announcing their decisions until late that afternoon. For Schumer, a decisive meeting came later in the day, around the same time as Leahy's press conference. Mukasey assured him he would enforce any law Congress passes to explicitly state that certain interrogation techniques -- such as waterboarding -- are illegal under U.S. torture laws.

Folks, there are dyed-in-the-wool NEOCONs on both sides of the aisle which is why this "Blame the Democrats" tactic is such total bullshit. Mark these fellow-travelers well! All NEOCONs slop from the same trough.

In addition, Senator Feinstein is a member of the Trilateral Commission.

Schumer / Feinstein have now officially joined the ranks of traitors to this nation. Makes me wonder how much they were payed under the table to vote for another death blow to American moral "high ground."

There is an event called 'mercury standing still' when the planet mercury is going directly away from earth or coming right at earth. Its part of mercury retrograde. It lasts about three days and this is the scary part of retrograde when the things you do don't work out as planned and they go really badly wrong. Never sign contracts at this time!
Well when Schumer and Ms F did thier dirty deed mercury was standing still. Porter Goss got his job at the CIA when mercury was standing still and look how long he lasted. I think this is going to follow them around for a long, long time. Thier timing was marvelous!

Schumer and Feinstein, as well as all elected officials of the Federal Government need to always remember their jobs aren't an Entitlement.

It would be extremely naive for politicians to consider their seats safe in this day and age. Most of the Electorate would gladly substitute a Fumbling Novice for a Jaded Capitulator.

And frankly, turning over the entire Congress for the next few cycles, retaining no Entrenched Bastions of Democracy, might actually reinvigorate the system. It would be great to watch the Political Whoremongers dump billions of dollars into their Politican Cultivation Process, only to see their entire investment flushed down the toilet the next election cycle.

In short, Shumer and Feinstein, no one gives a rat's ass about your political record. Your constituents are not obligated to you. You are replaceable.

As American Business has been saying to its employees: Your Loyalty is Meaningless. Your Contribution is Meaningless. All your Good Works over the Years are Meaningless. It's all about now and whether or not you, as an employee, are a Luxury we can afford.

Senators, you make yourselves more and more expendable with each misstep. You should ponder your actions in terms of constitutent reaction.

In reality, the Party of Perpetual Outrage is years out of date on waterboarding.
*****

From ABC News:

"For all the debate over waterboarding, it has been used on only three al Qaeda figures, according to current and former U.S. intelligence officials.

As ABC News first reported in September, waterboarding has not been used since 2003 and has been specifically prohibited since Gen. Michael Hayden took over as CIA director.

Officials told ABC News on Sept. 14 that the controversial interrogation technique, in which a suspect has water poured over his mouth and nose to stimulate a drowning reflex as shown in the above demonstration, had been banned by the CIA director at the recommendation of his deputy, Steve Kappes.

Hayden sought and received approval from the White House to remove waterboarding from the list of approved interrogation techniques first authorized by a presidential finding in 2002."

So being Rat-Bastards wasn't good enough for them? They had to be Sneaky, Conniving, Duplicitous Rat-Bastards?

Well I was already convinced Feinstein was really a Brown Shirt and had my concerns about Shumer - and now we know about him too. I hope this knowledge is reflected in the next election cycle for them.

Here's Feinstein at her press conference ~~

Jimmy, bring out the "Dead To Me" board. We've got some names to add to the list tonight. Schumer, Feinstein, you're dead to me! Schumer, you're replacing Filliam H. Muffman on the big board. Feinstein, you're replacing Bears. Oh, yes, you heard me right. Diane Feinstein is more dead to me than bears. See what happens when you vote for torture, Chuck and Diane? You skip right past being put on notice, and straight to being Dead To Me. It hurts, doesn't it? Kind of like... oh, I don't know... torture?

I've been seeing this for decades. The Dems have a "this is good as we're liable to get out of the idiot Right" attitude. They settle for a fool out of fear he'll simply be replaced by a fool and a danger. The sad part is its the Dems who get the blame. That's like blaming the teller for the bank robbery instead of the guy with the gun. Don't like Mukasey? BLAME THE IDIOT REPUBLICANS!!!

It's not hard to see who the co-conspirators are.

The people who would sell their own country for a little bit of gold for themselves should remember the traditional punishment for treason.

The world will go on without the United States, and will never again allow the United States to reclaim the mantle of respect and authority that it had once earned. Why would any reasonable person do so?

Schumer and Feinstein should be lead out of the chambers in chains. They advocate torture plain and simple, by voting for this Judge who doesn't know if it's torture or not. Does the guy live under a rock, he was asked his "opinion", isn't that what Judges are suppose to give, an Opinion? I say, waterboard all three, the Judge, Schumer and Feinstein, if they still don't think it's torture then vote the guy in.
This country is sliding into the abyss and if we were so ignornant to think the Democrats were going to stand up against this little whimp then it looks as if we are screwed.

Their votes for Mukasey are votes for torture, pure and simple. There is no room for argument here, you are either ashamed and appalled that our government has stooped so low, or you are cowering in fear about the "threat" of terrorism and willing to give Bush whatever means he asks for to "fight" it, the Constitution and morality be damned.

Those of us who have regularly supported Democrats for elected office need to become much more critical. Joe Lieberman was the first, but not the last to leave the tent. These two no longer deserve any support. In fact, as long as Schumer runs the Senate Campaign Committee, they can expect nothing from me. I will eagerly look forward to the day when I can vote against Schumer. Until then, I will rue the day that I voted for him.
