Portfolio:

In a show of solidarity with his fellow scribes, the Daily Show host has told his writing staff that he will cover all their salaries for the next two weeks, according to a well-placed source. He has also vowed to do the same for writers on The Colbert Report. A Comedy Central spokesman referred my inquiry about this to Stewart's personal publicist, who has yet to respond.

Stewart's intention, says the source, is to ensure his writers will face no financial hardship should the strike, which kicked off at 3 a.m. local time, conclude within that time frame.

Why did HuffPo feel it necessary to picture him with Musharraf?

If he can pay his writers out of his own pocket
they must be really badly underpaid.

I was wondering why the puns were not funny anymore. I miss the Laura Kightlinger puns.
Laura Kightlinger quit and went to Rainbow Media
because the Daily Show paid the minimum wage.

Jon, at 62 and a long time activist in the peace, civil rights and labor movements (and from New Jersey) I salute you. Some of us actually believe the slogans "Solidarity Forever" and "An injury to one is an injury to all." Your actions almost elevate me out of my cocoon of cynicism and make me believe -- almost. However despite my cynicism, I have always remained loyal in word and deed. You have too. If I had tears left after the events of the past few years and the decades of labor impotence, I'd shed them as a result of your true spirit-of-labor actions.

What a great idea! My opinion of Stewart, which has always been one of great admiration, has just gone up a whole lotta ... bunch ... ya see why you need good writers? Bravo!

NOW THAT'S A *MAN*

manly man doing manly things.

can you say 'ethical'? I wonder, can you call someone a humanitarian for digging into his own pocket to ensure a nation hears its own waterboarded conscience?

I hope so, because we're running low on appropriate & descriptive adjectives to describe Jon Stewart.

Great idea. Not only does it show solidarity with the writers but it enables him to keep his show running as well!

I love this man. How many people do what they think is right if it includes digging out the wallet? Jon, you rock.
