America "Deserved" 9/11! And Elect Rudy For President!

In light of Pat Robertson's endorsement today of former NYC Mayor and Churchillian 9/11 hero Rudy Giuliani, it seems worth recalling that even as the smoke was still rising from the site a few days later, Robertson had this to say about the disaster in a TV appearance with Jerry Falwell:

"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve," said Falwell, appearing yesterday on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club," hosted by Robertson.

"Jerry, that's my feeling," Robertson responded. "I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population."

Falwell said the American Civil Liberties Union has "got to take a lot of blame for this," again winning Robertson's agreement: "Well, yes."

Do you mean to tell me that in the rock solid moral heart of a fundamentalist leader like Mad Pat there is room for compromise on the most vile of the fundamentalist evils?

Or does this just show that when morality and access to power confront each other, hypocrites like Robertson will always choose to cozy up to the powerful...or potentially powerful?

Well Robertson is consistently vile and stupid.

I don't know what Bible the Robertsons and Guiliani's read, but the Jesus I was taught about had love and peace as his primary values. From my perspective, Rudy and Robertson and all the neocon hate mongers are as much terrorists as the Islamic fundamentalists they try to frighten us with. They don't blow themselves up, the simply blow up the law and the Constitution. They rationalize sub-human behavior like torture while judging their fellow terrorists. And they preach hate and division. They think freedom of speech and freedom to lie and obfuscate are the same thing. And they do unto others whatever garners the most money and power to themselves. They scare me. They are the worst this country has to offer. And I guess they deserve each other.

I don't think we deserve them, though, even though we have let the crazies run the country for too long, we don't deserve another 4 years of an insane, fanatical bully in the Whitehouse.
