The Senate confirmed retired judge Michael Mukasey as attorney general Thursday night to replace Alberto Gonzales, who was forced from office in a scandal over his handling of the Justice Department.
Mukasey was confirmed as the nation's 81st attorney general after a sharp debate over his refusal to say whether the waterboarding interrogation technique is torture.

Here's the deal. It's real simple.
This Mukasey person will be Bush's new butt boy at the Justice Dept.
Otherwise Bush simply would not have selected him.
Bush's people do what Bush wants or they don't get the job or if they have a job, they're replaced.
Mukasey will provide legal cover for Bush and do exactly what Bush wants or he will resign to "spend more time with his family."
As for the Democrats, they are just the moderate left wing [and not even that much] of the one party system we now have. The Corporate Party.

Will someone please explain to me why it is that when the Democrats do not get 60 votes for a bill, it does not pass, but when the Republicans get only 53 votes, the Dems do not threaten filibuster and the measure passes? The system seems rigged, and we are being taken for a ride by the leadership of the political cabal that rules Washington.
There is really only one political party in this country, but they keep pretending, and we keep believing, there are two! What a farce. Vote Green or Libertarian - it accomplishes little but at least you have the satisfaction of not voting for the machine.
