Candidates Miss Vote

Mukasey, 66, was the White House's first choice to replace Gonzales.

Besides Schumer and Feinstein, Democrats voting to confirm Mukasey were: Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Of the Senate's two independents, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut voted for confirmation and Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against.

Not voting were Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden of Delaware, Hillary Clinton of New York, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois. All four had said they opposed Mukasey's nomination.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona also was absent, as were GOP Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas.

Oh great and mighty Democratic party, we look to you to defend our Constitution.

Response: We're too busy looking for those votes. BTW what's that about an 11% approval? We just don't get it.

That's REALLY a misleading headline. The presidential candidates were given little notice of the vote. The real question is why the vote was scheduled late at night and on very short notice. That question should be put to Sen. Harry Reid.

Listening to the debate on C-Span last night, I was impressed by Sen. Bernie Sanders' comments. He was basically saying enough is enough! It's time to draw a line with this administration. It's sad that the Dems didn't take this opportunity to stand up and say "NO". A filibuster would have been a great thing to see at this point.

"In response to the escalating violence in Iraq, President Bush is delaying the return home of 25,000 troops and will actually add reinforcements to the south. Then in a symbolic gesture he pulled down the mission accomplished banner, put on a flight suit, walked backwards to a jet fighter and flew it in reverse off an aircraft carrier." —Tina Fey, Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update"

What hideous Political Instincts the Dems exhibit. They are not FOR Mukasey's confirmation, but they rather not be on the record through a vote?

That's wanting ... that's sad ... that's Pathetic

And Dodd ... come on, Man ... you were looking so good there for awhile. Are you only about words too? Not deeds? Disappointing.

Edwards should announce he's going to choose Kucinich as his running mate.

That would raise the blood pressure of Clinton and Obama just a tad.

I wonder why the Hamid Karzai surrender story not covered on fox?

I don't see why they would censor that story. All it does is make bush boy look weak on terror. That's all.

None of the candidates who opted out of this vote should have a chance to be president. None of the people who allowed him to get approved as attorney general should be re-elected. This country is in the hands of maniacs and cowards.

We need to Impeach Bush and Cheney. It is our only hope. Take action now. Insist that Congress act on HR333 - the articles of impeachment - introduced by Dennis Kucinich.

Oh - vote for Dennis Kucinich... ignore the media blackout on him and find out about him. He's smart and honorable. Here's a good interview he gave at PBS. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/politics/july-dec07/kucinich_10-04.html

Great picture. It says it all. Looks like Mukasey just got finished sucking on someone's pork. Wonder who?

If you read the laughable Anti-Semitic circle jerk going on here you'd imagine that only Feinstein and Schumer voted to confirm this idiot.

It's funny there's no mention about Jews that voted against confirmation: Boxer, Feingold, Lautenberg, Coleman Sanders etc.

Amazing....

Yes, When God created people, sometimes I think he overestimated his ability.
