Clinton, Dodd, Biden, Obama Skip Mukasey Confirmation Vote

Mukasey, 66, was the White House's first choice to replace Gonzales.

Besides Schumer and Feinstein, Democrats voting to confirm Mukasey were: Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Of the Senate's two independents, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut voted for confirmation and Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against.

Not voting were Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden of Delaware, Hillary Clinton of New York, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois. All four had said they opposed Mukasey's nomination.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona also was absent, as were GOP Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas.

If you put together the poll that shows male independent voters can't stomach Clinton with the fact the independents in NH are requesting Democratic ballots in droves, that spells trouble for HRC in NH. And I don't think there is a war going on between independent males and females either. I am a woman independent as well as many of my friends, and we don't like her either. Independents period don't want her, and we make up 40% of the electorate. With Obama stubbing his toe on the Mukasey vote and both Clinton and Obama supporting an expansion of NAFTA which Bush requested, I see Edwards coming from behind.

How about we concentrate on nominating a Democratic Governor.

This article reminds me of a Seinfeld episode in which Jerry exclaims to George(laying on floor with pants around his ankels): "And you want to be my next latex salesman?". The next time I see Hillary state "as President of the United States" I will look at her and ask, "And you want to be my my next President?"

Four more votes against Mukasey wouldn't have made a difference to the result.

Just because there were enough no votes to equal a filibuster doesn't mean that all those no votes would support a filibuster.

Biden voted against Mukasey in the Judiciary Committee, where it could have been stopped if Feinstein and Schumer hadn't caved. The other presidential candidates aren't on that committee.

Even Russ Feingold wasn't calling for a filibuster. Before forming the traditional Democratic Circular Firing Squad, and pouring venom all over four presidential candidates who are less than 60 days from the first caucus, it might be good to ask whether there is any point.
