Candidates Miss Vote

Mukasey, 66, was the White House's first choice to replace Gonzales.

Besides Schumer and Feinstein, Democrats voting to confirm Mukasey were: Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Of the Senate's two independents, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut voted for confirmation and Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against.

Not voting were Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden of Delaware, Hillary Clinton of New York, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois. All four had said they opposed Mukasey's nomination.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona also was absent, as were GOP Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas.

Skipping the vote on Mukassey is a coward way to avoid the responsibility to face criticism. Is it just too difficult to stand up to your beliefs and voice the fact that most Americans people condemn torture?

shame on the dems who skipped the vote!

Now go support Edwards. He would have voted against for sure. Edwards must get our support.

And these are the candidates that want to be the leaders of the United States????? Spineless, more interested in their own self interests than in the Constitution. Gore needs to run.

Poor Huffers. They support a bunch of spineless hypocrites. The surrender monkeys are in retreat and their white flags are getting muddied in the process.

Hilarious leads Sadsack by only 10 pts in the latest polls - 34/24%. And her negatives in the General Election makes it a dead heat race against RUDY. But, since the ANOINTING of Hilarious, the country has pretty much settled on her while the Repubs are still in turmoil.

What this all means is that once the Repubs ANOINT their candidate, the polls may change drastically in their favor.

Interesting that Schumer, Feinstein, Bayh, Lieberman are all linked to Hillary Clinton's candidacy. Of course they have to stay below the radar about their endorsements, just like Boxer is lying low.

I wonder how Hillary would have voted on Mukasey if she had to vote?

Each Senator mentioned, had their own reasons for not being there and voting, but wanting to do the job they are paid for was not high on their list.

Few in Congress deserve to be re-elected and the odds are that yours is one of them who doesn't. My 'rep' has refused to back HR333 despite an overwhelming number of voters here in the district, that would.

If you listened to Ralph Nader, it is because many in Congress fear that if directly challenged, the neocons would declare Martial Law. Of course, there are other believable scenarios but that is the scariest.

It seems that many in both Parties are waiting and hoping that BushCo will just go away. For me, that is cowardly appeasement and an insult to those who have gone before US, defending democracy.

The decision to not vote, on all of their parts, was gutless.

I want a candidate that will show just where they stand on each and every issue, and be willing to go on the record with their position.

These people weaseled-out, and I'm pissed.

A filibuster would have been easy and successful. Mukasey only got 53 votes, even with our Democrat wimps who voted with Bush again. It takes 60 votes to break a filibuster and the pukers didn't have it.
John Edwards should be up with TV spots in Iowa and New Hampshire from now 'til January demanding to know why Obama didn't filibuster, why Hillary didn't filibuster. Edwards might win the nomination in a runaway. Does he have the guts to take this gift horse and embrace it???

"This is the only chance we have," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

What a crock of BS.

So, explain to me WHY they would miss this vote?
1. As political cover? They are not on recorded voting for or against the nomination; staying the middle course; non controversial; sitting on the fence post undisturbed?
2. Legitimate scheduling conflicts that they could not attend; surprised by the vote they did not have time to return to D.C.?
3. The vote was scheduled to exclude these presidential candidates; to make they look bad; a calculated strategy?
4. Other? (Dems and Repubs are really all part of the same club – so the vote really was predetermined while allowing pseudo political posturing?)
5. Just plain old incompetence? Complacency? Arrogance? Spineless? SNAFU?

More dirty politics.

When will these people realize that people are tired of politicians that dodge their responsibilities?

Clinton, Dodd, Biden, Obama, as far as I am concerned, if you want the same old dirty politics, these are the folks you should vote for.

Shame about Obama, I thought he may have been different than the others... But obviously he is not.
