Candidates Miss Vote

Mukasey, 66, was the White House's first choice to replace Gonzales.

Besides Schumer and Feinstein, Democrats voting to confirm Mukasey were: Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Of the Senate's two independents, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut voted for confirmation and Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against.

Not voting were Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden of Delaware, Hillary Clinton of New York, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois. All four had said they opposed Mukasey's nomination.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona also was absent, as were GOP Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas.

The Democratic candidates not voting wouldn't have changed the outcome.
The villians are Senators Schumer and Feinstein who voted to allow Mukasey's nomination to go to the floor.
Senators Schumer and Feinstein are the reason Mukasey is the new AG.
Senators Schumer and Feinstein remember them
Senators Schumer and Feinstein

Whether or not America becomes a nation of torturers is not important. Their political power is all that's important.

I want to go on record condemning AIPAC's undue influence on US decision making in foreign policy. They are very arrogant and unjustly intrusive.

We'd all be a lot better off if AIPAC just packed its bags and left Washington D.C. for good.

What I cannot fathom ... how anyone can argue for Republicans or Democrats at this time. It's like taking side as a cheerleader for heart disease or cancer to win. It's like cheering at a tag team wrestling event.

It is clear that the real war in America is a corrupt government against it's middle class taxpaying public.

They all (except a select few) support open borders, jobs going overseas, Fear tactics and oppose real 9-11 investigations or ever opposing Cheney's Will. Only one speaks about the Federal Reserve and its devastating effects on us today. Something is very wrong of course.

Rudy or Hillary? We are doomed. Most of the front runners are terrible Statemen - they work only for corporations and AIPAC. Cowardly and manipulative ego freaks who pull in money from those who wish to enslave us.

The biggest Fools today are those who rally behind either political party and against the other. Polarization has been quite a tool for the greedy and self-serving. It is killing America. Divide and conquer still works well for the king makers.

Cowards! If you don't want to be seen voting either way or have it used against you, just skip the vote.

Well, Obama fans, where's your "man of principle" now?

Personally, I'm disappointed by Dodd. I didn't expect anything better from Clinton, Obama and BIden.

I hope we don't blow it like in 2000 when Nader single handedly cost Gore the election. Waste your vote in the primaries if you wish to "protest", but when the general election comes I'd still rather have any Democrat than a Republican. Those who said it would not make a difference in 2000 have only themselves to blame.

This behavior by 4 Democrat Senators makes me realize how much God loves me by having me born a Republican.

As a former liberal who voted for Hubert Humphrey in my first Presidential vote I converted to conservatism after corresponding with a John Birch Society member.

The question we need to ask of Senators Clinton, Obama, Dodd and Biden is why not one of them flew back to Washington to personally fillibuster this nomination.

All it takes for a fillibuster is ONE Senator to start.

WHY did they put their aspirations ahead of their duties and not fly back to Washington.

Each of them has access to a private plane and could have flown back to Washington.

WHY DIDN'T THEY?

The Spanish Inquisition, WWII Japan, Pol Pot, Myanmar 2007 – We’ve joined the club. Shame on our Senate, shame on us.
