Candidates Miss Vote

Mukasey, 66, was the White House's first choice to replace Gonzales.

Besides Schumer and Feinstein, Democrats voting to confirm Mukasey were: Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Of the Senate's two independents, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut voted for confirmation and Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against.

Not voting were Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden of Delaware, Hillary Clinton of New York, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois. All four had said they opposed Mukasey's nomination.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona also was absent, as were GOP Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas.

Unacceptable. If the nominees would lead the Nation, they should have tried to lead four other Senators to vote against confirmation.

These demobozos are the opposite of those mentioned in JFK's "Profiles in Courage"

Karl Rove has Pelosi's number too

I decried this earlier myself. What an outrageous turn of events. This is not leadership. It is not even followership. It is abdication and abandonment. Who will there be to speak up for the people, if even those who feign to do so, shirk their duty. Unbelievable. Shameful. Disgusting. Giordy

If this meaningless headline
temporarily boosts interest
in my favorite Democratic
presidential candidate,
John Edwards,
then bring it on!

This is great!!

These four bozos (well three, Obama is at least honest about things) slinked away from taking a stand, and now this great guy can get to work! Personally, I hope he looks the other way regardless of torture techniques we may employ right here in the good ole USA.

Even pulling genitalia off is OK in my book, if it keeps one of these islamo-facists from killing....YOU! You're my fellow American, and want you around when the mud-stomp of liberal ideas in our democracy is completed next year.

Wonder if this post will make it on this little Nazi Message Board? Censorship seems to be alive and well here.

Only person I will vote for is Edwards.

For Hillary, and Obama and ESPECIALLY Dodd to turn coward and skip voting, WHICH IS THEIR JOB, shows they are terrified of having their vote used against them by the Thug party. They don't vote....nothing to use against them.

I am really disappointed in Dodd as he was the one who posted here a few days ago about his principles regarding what he believes in. THEN he chickens out of the deal by just not showing up to vote. Total hypocrite.

Very disappointing. First of all, Clinton, Dodd and Biden ALL authorized Bu$h to go to war in Iraq. Edward also voted for authorization as he was a Senator at the time. So did Kerry and Bayh. Only a few brave souls voted against the authorization, people like Feingold and Kennedy. Gore and Obama were also against the war effort, but couldn't vote at the time. At least Edwards apoligized for his vote. Dodd and Biden also have shown remorse. But Clinton still insists that she has no guilt. Whether she wants to belive it or not, she was guilty, as was anyone else that believed Bu$h & Cheney's bullshit. And she is guilty now for not exercising her vote, as was Dodd, Biden and Obama. I don't care if they all said that they were aginst it. Put your money where your mouth is. That may be a bad pun, as Hillary gets more lobbyist's money than any other candidate, Dem or Repub. Feingold is the only Dem that has shown any real balls in the party. He was against the Iraq war and also voted against the Patriot act. He wanted to at least censure Bu$h & Cheney, but the spineless Democrats said no again that time. I don't think the Dems will ever get that spine with Pelosi and Reid as "leaders". And the Presidential candidates for the Dems did themselves no favors by not voting for this. Please Al. Reconsider running. You have won an Oscar and a Nobel peace prize. You also WON the 2000 Presidential election. Gore/Feingold in 2008.

Ah, yes: tending to the people's business!
There's a parable in here somewhere... something about campaigning be the real business of our elected representatives, not governing.
DK is looking better and better!

The four who failed to vote simply don't grasp the fact that actions really do speak louder than words. A vote against confirmation would have had a much stronger impact than a dozen stump speeches or TV commercial about what they want to do.

I can't begin to describe the depth of my outrage fatigue with our "representatives" in Washington. The government of, by and for the people has been hijacked, and the country is being driven over a cliff by a madman.
The cowardly decision to skip the vote has helped me decide on supporting Kucinich.

Speaking of cowards, does anyone know of a movement to remove Pelosi as Speaker? Maybe that would light a fire under democrats to impeach Bush and Cheney.

JFK wrote a famous book, Profiles in Courage. Who out there will take up the story of these four non-votes and write Profiles in Cowardice. All four! It seems like a bit of collusion to me.

I watched the speeches at the Mukasey confirmation hearings on C-Span. Dick Durbin's speech was especially good. Feinstein and Schumer were hanging out with Lieberman, chatting during the votes, probably no one else could stomach them. I looked for Hillary and Obama, and they were nowhere to be found.

That, plus the fact the HRC and BO voted for the Peru Trade deal, shows they have not only lost touch with their base, but the ideals of our country.

Kucinich is now the only Candidate that Dems should be voting for. He espouses and embodies the Democratic principles our country is based on. Vote for Dennis in the Primary.

Great; such is the bravery of our current field of would-be nominees. RUN AL RUN! RUN AL RUN!

Not a story. He was going to be confirmed anyway, thanks to Feinstein and Schumer, so why do they need to fly back to Washington, wasting fossil fuels for a bunch of silliness? Grow up people.
