Musharraf and Bhutto Both Called Biden Before Bush

President Pervez Musharraf and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto each placed telephone calls from Pakistan to Democratic Sen. Joseph Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to discuss the country's crisis before either talked to President George W. Bush.

On Saturday, Bhutto emphasized to Biden the need for parliamentary elections in January with Gen. Musharraf remaining as president but leaving the army. Musharraf called Biden on Tuesday and asked that their conversation be kept confidential. Biden got the impression Musharraf could accept January elections although he had triggered the crisis by suspending the constitution.

I find myself looking for what Biden's response is in these situations. He's the only one who's telling it like it is, and Bush/Condi aren't even on the same planet when it comes to understanding events and repercussions in the global arena.

Biden needs to be our next president. I only hope the democratic activists see past the celebrity-circus and money-orgy this campaign has turned into and actually nominates the smartest, most-qualified, most-prescient, most-respected (by the world) candidate in the race.

I like Biden and he's one of my favorite Dems. He's a gasbag, sure, but he's smart, experienced, and a patriot. Having stated that....

Do you think that Biden immediately called media to report his conversation, even though Musharraf had asked him to keep it confidential? Do you think Musharraf will trust him again?

Musharraf is on his last term. He declared martial law to ensure that he is appointed yet again. It's all about being a dictator. He and Bush are two peas in a pod and, if we don't do something, Bush will be the next to pull this stunt.

Biden is the best chance America has for a SANE foreign policy. Putting him in the White House is a waste. My hope is that Obama will pick Edwards for VP and Biden for Secretary of State. Likewise, Richardson for Ambassador to the U.N.

Now there's a team that could make good things happen.

SOME of us HAVE been trying to get America, including an awful lot of Huffposters, to count higher than 3 ("front-runners") and see what has been obvious to us all along -- THAT JOE BIDEN IS, UNCONDITIONALLY AND UNEQUIVICALLY, THE ONLY ABSOLUTELY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE RUNNING FOR POTUS (OR NOT RUNNING, for that matter)...PERIOD.
(Among our frustrated faithful are LizM and Thalia, and a couple of others that I can't recall now, since they seem to have become vocal only more recently.)

What we must realize before it's too late is that we have an obligation to spread the word, AND, if we can, to contribute (for the first time in 35 years of voting, I have contributed --3 times --I consider it as important to budget for as anything else in my life right now.)...
It's critical because Senator BIDEN doesn't have a lot of corporate campaign money...meaning HE CAN'T BE BOUGHT...but having the funds to spread the word in Iowa and NH is CRITICAL NOW, because if he can't get the word out there, all of our non-monetary efforts and support will be wasted on a lost cause.

IT'S UP TO US.

IF WE ALL DON'T DO ALL WE CAN NOW TO NOMINATE THE SMARTEST AND MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE, THEN WE DESERVE THE S**T WE GET.
