With polls showing African-Americans have yet to give overwhelming support to White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), his wife Michelle said "black America will wake up and get it" in an interview running on MSNBC on Monday.

MSNBC is using excerpts of a Michelle Obama interview to run in full on Tuesday morning. In a clip that's featured in the afternoon cycle, Michelle Obama invoked the name of civil rights leaders Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. when talking about African-American turnout, a crucial voting bloc for the Illinois senator.

Hmmm, a white supporter of Barack Obama here in SC called me a racist for not supporting Obama for president. She said that the black folks not supporting him had no hopes and dreams for the country and their future. At the time, I was merely incredulous at her judgemental comments as she isn't even active in the Democratic party (just working as an Obama volunteer) but now, I am starting to think that her comments were part of a greater propaganda put out by the campaign. I've never seen a candidate who had more of a messianic complex, never seen supporters/followers who acted more like cultists than reasoned thinkers.

Can someone verify?

It belittles Barack Obama for his wife to have to play the race card. Too bad, I was starting to like this guy - but as soon as you start with the race card bullshit I lose interest.

Hillary --> gender card
Obama --> race card

Race is not a reason to vote for against anyone. Neither is gender.

A leader of a multi cultural nation must be color blind and must not play the race card.
Allowing his supporters to do so must be seen as a major blunder and character flaw, damaging him in the eyes of many.

Weird how it doesn't occur to Mrs. O that people are judging her husband as a person and not because of his race and they just don't like the narcissistic Obama.

It's true that the white neocon power elite want all open and honest discussion to just disappear. It's a continuation of the Reagan era approach: the racism is still there. But many times slightly more subtle than before.

So instead of saying African-American voters will wake up and get it, why not say all caring, intelligent and rational Americans will get it? Wouldn't that tie in better to the inclusive message that her husband keeps pushing in the campaign?

The problem with Michelle is that her racism shows through. She will hurt Obama's chance to be president.I think Obama could make a good president, but there is Michelle. I find her to be very detrimental to his campaign.I personally emailed Obama a couple of years before he made a decision to run for president, encouraging him to run, but I did not know Michelle was in his closet.

I don't think so. It actually matters not. OBAMA is NOT qualified to be president in my opinion, nor is Billary.

Raise YOUR standards, be independent.

Never trust soundbites or (lately) the media in general.

Why is that the majority of the stories creating controversy about Obama seem to be written by the same authors?

Do you remember that the last article to appear on this website that generated heavy criticism about Michelle Obama was authored by the same person who wrote this? Research will show you what I believe is a pattern.

Well folks, as usual, it's been an amusing evening here on the HP. What did I learn tonight;

1. HP still has lots of hate mongers blogging.
2. The Democratic candidates are not very strong.
3. Only Richardson is qualified to be the prez.
4. barack Obama's wife needs to shut up.
5. There are a lot of Democratic homers here on the HP.

If Obama were a Republican, he'd have a chance. But as a Democrat, he has no chance.

If he doesn't get the Democratic nod, he should run as an independent - this year, and in 2012.

Good night Dumbacrats. Try to do better next time, here, on the HP.

What you all do not understand that some black people think Barack dose not have a chance to with the election. She is clearly stating this point. Wake up to the fact that America can move on past race. If you all take a good look in the mirror you will find this out!!! Listen to what he has to say. This is a wake up call for black Americans. Black American give their own a hard time. It is time to listen and stop looking for somebody to throw you bone when you can have a steak in the process. Open your eyes black America. Give him a fair shake!! You do not have to vote for him because he is black vote for him because you can relate to what is saying.

People, People, People,
Why are you making all these anti-Michelle comments without even waiting to hear the full interview and the context in which she made these remarks?

The knee-jerk reaction to a few phrases here tells me very clearly that RACE in America is THE DRIVING FORCE of many people's thoughts.

If RACE was not so central, why would 2 incomplete sentences generate such angry comments.

Can we at least wait to listen to the full interview before we explode with our biases?
