While wrestling with wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon is preparing weapons to fight the next battle from space, according to information in the 621-page, House-Senate conference report on the fiscal 2008 defense appropriations bill.

The $459 billion bill, which awaits President Bush's signature, provides $100 million for a new "prompt global strike" program that could deliver a conventional, precision-guided warhead anywhere in the world within two hours. It takes funds away from development of a conventional warhead for the Navy's submarine-launched Trident Intercontinental Ballistic Missile and from an Air Force plan for the Common Aero Vehicle.

The new program, dubbed Falcon, for "Force Application and Launch from CONUS," centers on a small-launch-vehicle concept of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The agency describes Falcon as a "a reusable Hypersonic Cruise Vehicle (HCV) capable of delivering 12,000 pounds of payload at a distance of 9,000 nautical miles from [the continental United States] in less than two hours."

If another country -- Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iran -- were to develop such a weapon, we'd call it a "global terror weapon" and do everything it took to stop it.

Can you just imagine that we are being told this information openly. What kind of weapons are we not being told about?

They trot out these figures like it's nothing:100 billion,459 billion, 700 billion.

Where is this money coming from. The miitary knows that they can get any war bill passed under GWB, so in his last year, they are piling it on.

The Chinese are talking about exploiting outer space. It is a ruse to get Bush all excited and to increase military spending. And where will the US get the money. You got it. A loan from China.

Bushco is a perfect patsy. Imagine we have no system to fight forest fires. We couldn't build some levees to protect New Orleans. We couldn't even seed some clouds to get some rain to fall, and no extension of healthcare, but by George we can blow up any place on earth in and wow , in only two hours

Think about this... The Earth, a tiny pale blue dot in the middle of nothing. Humans, available to develop technology that could mean the survival of mankind for millions of years. We are able to cure thousands of diseases, send man into outer space, genetically alter our bodies to become physically superior. And what do we come up with????

A WAY TO KILL OURSELVES IN 2 FUCKING HOURS!!!

This people, is exactly why humans will not survive. Compared to dinosaurs we will have been a colossal failure.

Lovely. Let's keep perfecting our killing capability; life is just one big video game.

I wonder how laughably easy to beat this overpriced piece of junk will be...

GOTTA BOMB 'EM...

Good ole Dubya. He blew up frogs as a kid. Now he blows up people. All the same to him, apparently....

That photo looks amazingly like the "UFO" I saw three weeks ago! Just imagine, a whole fleet of these baby's parked way up in space, just imagine the planetery damage they could inflict in a matter of minutes! Blast! Looks like somebody's imagined it before me! Looks like we're all up the proverbial creek without a paddle! Gee, thanks George!

Having lost ANY credibility at actually waging and WINNING wars, the military "geniuses" at the Pentagon have now decided to pursue imaginary enemies in space.

After five years in Iraq and Afghanistan, why is the world's most powerful military power, ground down in stalemates with a ragtag bunch of terrorist?

Perhaps it has something to do with the corrupt military-industrial complex about which Eisenhower warned. We can spend BILLION$ on high tech weapons, but can't actually win a ground war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wake Up, America. It's time to shake off this nightmare. You're not getting your money's worth...and in fact, you're worse off than before 9/11.

At last - the madmen drop their masks and show off their ugly faces.

This is the final dream of allmightyness: Being able to destroy everything, everywhere, anytime.

God redux.

Well: Adolf the Ubergerman had his V2 to come close to HIS dream of allmightyness. Now King George thoroughly follows his footsteps, initiating: "Prompt Global Strike". Any similarities - someone...?

Ever heard about the discussions in the early 80ies (Ah - those good, old, glorious REAGAN-years!), which EVEN THEN were concluding the ABSOLUTE NECCESSITY to avoid an armsrace in space - because, if that would occur, we'd finally be only one last (small step for mankind) away for whiping ourselves from the face of the Earth?

If this was right then - what is THIS supposed to be now?

King George Dumb***k is finally on his way to meet his final destiny: Becoming Jupiter, Zeus and Odin in one person combined.

If THAT wasn't hubris, then what?

It's high time for a Goetterdaemmerung (Doom of Gods). I mean, it's REALLY high time!

Impeach now.

Let's see...NASA has a helluva time launching a re-usable NON-hypersonic spacecraft, and every tenth one blows up.

The NRO recently blew tens of billions on the next "keyhole" spy satellite...and STILL ended up having to cancel the program. Go to NYT and type in "boeing satellite"

Honestly, I don't think America has the engineers who can do it anymore. Or a mindset for quality over profitability.

Imagine a hypersonic space vehicle running some variant of the Windows O.S. Mach 4: Ooops, gotta reboot!

Like Ronnie Raygun's "Star Wars," and all subsequent "missile shields," why don't we just call this hair-brained idea what it really is:

DCE -- Defense Contractor Enrichment.

Isn't amazing how our government has managed to lead us into the most dangerous time in the history of mankind?

You gotta admit,it takes stupid on a cosmic scale to come up with crap like this.

The future "Moon base" will be a military barracks. No civilian will ever be allowed to set foot in it.

This looks pretty cool, like Buck Rogers cool... Maybe we should couple this with a new Star Wars system too...
Why don't we get serious about our priorities as a nation, and the people here, and elsewhere or earth.
