Ono Sell Out

Yoko Ono did sell John Lennon's rare home recording of "Real Love" to JC Penney for a commercial.

The spot began airing on Sunday night during ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" before Penney could even make the announcement.

The Beatles have had their songs licensed for commercials in the past, but with the rare exception of perhaps "Revolution" years ago, they never have allowed master recordings out. The songs are always re-recorded.

If you're going to link to FauxNews, be prepared to correct their errors.
1. John's "Real Love" is technically not a "Beatles" song. It's a Lennon song that was re-worked by the surviving Beatles and included in the "Anthology" in the 1990s; but is not Lennon-McCartney, and not part of the Beatles 1962-70 cannon. Yoko has complete control of the original home tape, made in the late 70s, and already released by her on the Soundtrack to "John Lennon; Imagine" in 1988, BEFORE it was re-worked for the Anthology.
2. "Revolution" was not licensed for use in an ad. When Nike used the actual recording, not just a re-recording of the song, they were immediately sued by the Beatles, and stopped; the Beatles control their actual recordings. That twit Michael Jackson let Nike use it, but he only could allow the song, not the recording to be used.
3. If you are talking about ex-Beatles use of recordings, McCartney has used a song off "Chaos and Creation" and currently "Let 'Em In" for Fidelity Investments. Nobody treats his post-Beatles music as sacred.
4. I'm no Yoko fan but she sees it as her mission to keep John's music alive and out there. If the Stones and the Who allow actual recordings of their 60's and 70's hits to be used in TV ads (as well as Paul with his '70s stuff), and that gets 'em out there to a new audience, Yoko probably figures John MAY have done the same thing. I can't judge her on that. And "Real Love" ain't "Imagine" if you get my meaning.

Poor Yoko needed the money. It's gotta be tough getting by on only a couple of hundred million

Geez, Yoko must be down to her last billion.

I will never forget how she HAD to be in the studio for the Let It Be Album. She broke up the band.

What a pain in the ass. What was her contribution to the world? He art? Her music? No, she got John hooked on smack.

You refer me to Fox news? I don't care what Fox has to say about anything-they are crap. How dare you utilize their bushit, even if it has nothing to do with Bush.
