AP:

Barack Obama, who's been scolding Hillary Rodham Clinton for not hastening the release of records from her time as first lady, says he can't step up and produce his own records from his days in the Illinois state Senate.

He says he hasn't got any.

"I don't have _ I don't maintain _ a file of eight years of work in the state Senate because I didn't have the resources available to maintain those kinds of records," he said at a recent campaign stop in Iowa. He said he wasn't sure where any cache of records might have gone, adding, "It could have been thrown out. I haven't been in the state Senate now for quite some time."

Obama's statement that he has no papers from his time in the Illinois statehouse _ he left in 2004 _ stands in stark contrast to the massive Clinton file stored at the National Archives: an estimated 78 million pages of documents, plus 20 million e-mail messages, packed into 36,000 boxes. While any file from Obama's time in the state Senate would be far smaller, the idea that no papers exist at all is questioned by one historian.

Barack, buddy!!

Give us a break, dude!

You don't really want to be President
do you?

Now I get it!

How about a little dance now!

Maybe some Wayfarers
and a Dobro, sing a little
Blind Lemon Fool
for us!

Try Dancing With The Stars next!

That'll work!

The media took the Clinton campaign's bait on this story. There is a big difference between the records Clinton is withholding and the "records" from Obama's days in Illinois.

Hillary Clinton is running in large part on what she supposedly did in Bill Clinton's white house. Since she didn't have an official role there, the only way for us to know whether she is telling the truth about what she did or did not do is to see the records, which are locked away.

Barack Obama is running on what he did in Illinois and the US Senate, and all of that record is public and has been. Every vote, every bill, every speech. That's the record. The Clinton campaign, and now the media, are asking when he ate lunch on some day 10 years ago (I'm not joking - they're claiming that's a "record" that he should have kept, even though he didn't have an assistant who kept his schedule).

There's no comparison between the two.

Obama never said he has NO record! Don't put words in his mouth!

He said he did not keep a schedule of meetings and the like, but the official record is kept by the state. Now what's so hard about that?

GO ASK THE STATE OF ILLINOIS FOR HIS RECORD!

dont really need a file. Just go back and check his record in illinois. It will tell more than you need. Also, I do believe his home and lot in the upscale neighborhood he is in, was basically a gift from a large contractor he helped a lot while he was in the Illinois senate. basically, Obama is Ryan apprentice.

First of all, Obama turned over some of his records to the person who filled his spot. The Chicago Repisoitory has the rest of his records. Second of all, there is no law for a state senator to keep his records as their is with the President and and First Lady. Third, there is no tax dollars as there is with the President and First Lady to build a library. Fourth, state senators aren't paid that much and in alot of states they are only part timers and don't have much of a staff unless they in leadership positions.

The real Obama:

Today, the Obama campaign released a statement that contained a number of inaccuracies about his state senate records. First, Obama claimed that all his documents "the state considers to be public" are publicly available:
Obama is pleased that all of the records that the state considers to be public are currently available.
The records "the state considers public" are not "currently available." As the Chicago Sun-Times reports today, "There is no central repository of records between state lawmakers and state agencies, and Freedom of Information Act requests must be filed to obtain documents, a process that has been taking months."
It also does not speak to the real issue -- the availability of schedules, memos and other documents that Sen. Obama produced during his time in the state senate. These are documents that Illinois' two largest newspapers have long requested but have not received a response.
Today, Obama claims that he is "not in possession" of any documents "that are not available to the general public":
We are not in possession of documents from his time in the state senate that are not available to the general public and any pertinent files were passed on to his successor in the State Senate, Kwame Raoul.
Just days ago, Obama acknowledged he had "remaining documents"

Maybe he should check in the same spot Hillary mysteriously found her Rose Law Firm billing records! Yeah, that's the ticket!

LOL

- Nice 'try', Mr. Obama.
