Democrats and Republicans are both headed toward heated showdowns in Iowa, where, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll, Hillary Clinton holds a statistically insignificant lead over John Edwards and Barack Obama, and GOP hopeful Mitt Romney finds his long-held position as the state's front-runner challenged by a surging Mike Huckabee.

The situation in Iowa, where nominating caucuses are scheduled for Jan. 3, is in stark contrast to New Hampshire, where Clinton and Romney continue to hold large leads among those likely to vote in the state's first-in-the-nation primary, which could come only days after Iowa's contests.

But in both states, large chunks of voters have yet to make up their minds, meaning the results of the contests that will kick off the 2008 nominating season are still difficult to predict.

Clinton just flip flopped on Driver's License to illegals. She flip flopped on the issue because of pressure. That is why she cannot be trusted to deliver on what she says she would deliver, because she does not stand on principle. She would cave in to the special interest groups just as fast.ust flip flopped on Driver's Licenses.

If it comes down to a Clinton - Romney choice, Romney will win.

Remember that Bill Clinton was a close friend to Ken Lay of Enron. Bill also sold the Lincoln bedroom to the highest bidder while Jesse Jackson had the run of the WH.

The DNC fix for a losing Billery may already be in and that will not fly in the Middle American demographic at the polls.

We need a viable 3rd party that is moderate, centrist and independent of the extremist's control of the GOP and DNC.

Why is Senator Clinton back in a three way race and losing momentum? I offer the following:

1. People resent the invincibility and Bush-Clinton "dynasty" memes.

2. She and her campaign made some notable mistakes (debate answer, planted questions)

3. There have been recent challenges to some of her policy positions (NAFTA, Kyle-Lieberman)

4. She skipped the Mukasey vote.

5. She looks like a Rockefeller Republican hiding behind a Democratic mask...

You know I just say every Primary season we pick 2 or 3 states out of a paper bag at random, those states go first, than every other state goes on a date a week or two later. I agree Iowa and New Hampshire have way to much power. They're two of the whitest states in the nation, and more rural than the country as a whole.

That said the system is here to stay. Romney should be considered the frontrunner on the GOP side as far as I'm concerned. Iowa is the only state Hillary doesn't lead by 10 points or more so we'll know after those caucuses if the others have a shot. If she wins, I don't care if it's by .005%, than she has locked up the party's nomination right there.

Who gives a flying f**K what Iowa and New Hampshire want or decide. How dare these two states have a sense of entitlement to whittle down the choices for the rest of us.

The media could be spinning this whole election cycle differently. "Who wins Iowa or New Hampshire is really irellevant, Bob, because what at really matters is who wins the defacto national primary on Feb. 5."

Giuliani should come out and say, no state should have more power and influence than any other. The real contest is Feb. 5.

Giuliani and Hillary and all the candidates should both campaign in Michigan and Florida and tell Iowa and New Hampshire to go screw themselves.

It's happened before. In 1992, Iowa was discounted by the media because Sen. Harkin was running.

If we all discounted Iowa and New Hampshire and ripped their sense of self-entitlement from their undeserving bosom, we could have a defacto national election on Feb. 5 when every vote cast across the country will have equal weight.

While we are at it, let's have a direct popular vote in November where every vote counts equally and there are no "swing" states that get all the focus, with a runoff in December if necessary.

All of us, on all sides of the spectrum, needs to rescue our political process from the tyranny of small states, swing states and limited thinking like, "it's tradition, so who cares about actual fair and representative methods of picking a President."

I've got this sneaky feeling that this "All Campaign Politics All The Time" fever that's been going on for WAY too many months before the '08 elections is meant to be a distraction.

MSM's way of pretending it is covering politics without having to actually address the systematic (intended or not) errosion of America as we've known it because of political decisions being made TODAY that impact us as citizens TODAY and TOMORROW.

Rome is a crumbling.

Thanks for the campaigning circus.

Can we have our bread now?

Someone explain to me again why Iowa and New Hampshire have the sort of political clout they do. Besides, would you really want to boast that you're from the state that gave HRC the Democratic nomination? How sad.

When all of the Democrats (except Dodd) pulled out of the Michigan and Florida primaries they intentionally gave the nomination to Hillary. The Convention will cut a deal with both delegations to allow them to vote for Hillary, as it makes no sense to insult the delegates who are hard working Party activists necessary to win those two populous, critical states, especially when they will be Hillary delegates and Hillary will win the nomination.

Obama, Biden, Kucinich, Richardson and Edwards all know this and pulled out to coronate Hillary and hopefully get a VP slot or other post in the Hillary Clinton Administration.

So why is everyone making such a big deal about Iowa, when both Florida and Michigan are already in Hillary's camp?

Heavens to Betsy! Are Iowans THINKING FOR THEMSELVES?!?!

As far as I'm concerned, this is GOOD NEWS!!!

Forget about Edwards' $400 haircut.

Ask Hillary about her $1,200 makeup job...

Huckabee will be the surprise on the GOP side even if he comes in second. He will eventually be the VeeP choice.

An ordained Southern Baptist Minister on the ticket will only confirm to the country that the GOP is truly a regional political party more along the lines of a Traveling Revival Tent Crusade.

The likely GOP ticket, Romney/Huckabee will bring a Santorum sized loss to the Republicans in 08.

Obama and Hillary are outspending Edwards 2 to 1. Man, it's so nice to see Iowans can't be bought.
