After the disappointing take of "Lions for Lambs" last weekend, Tom Cruise could use a hit. But, his next movie is the controversial "Valkyrie," in which Cruise - in an eye patch- plays the real-life mastermind behind a failed attempt to assassinate Hitler.
But, Cruise's American accent and the other actors' (playing his fellow German soldiers) British accents aren't promising. And while the stirring music builds suspense, the outcome can't be a surprise.

I think it looks good.

Ironic that this movie is about the Nazis, who famously persecuted a religious minority, and now here are many people eager to slate Cruise for his religious views.

Hypocrisy never tasted so good.

I give him 2-3 more movies to finally be uncastable. THANK GOD!

I just realized that every time Huffington Post writes anything on Tom Cruise, the first thing I do is read the comments. I get such a kick out of them. Then I might read the article. Yeah, he did it to himself. I see him as another "star" for whom fame went to his head, and now he thinks he's such an expert and knows so much. I can't stand how full of himself he is. I used to be able to tolerate him but now I feel an alergic reaction every time I see his face. Ugh.

Seems like he's an over hyped 'mega' (cough cough) star, wasn't his much hyped 'Eyes Wide Shut' with ex Nicole supposed to be his ultimate star vehicle? (I've heard it flopped) and then 'War Of The Worlds' (eh the original one was better) and now this....

Let's see, here on the HuffPost entertainment page we've got shit about Cruise, Stallone, Stone, Winehouse, but nothing about the new Jimmy Carter documentary by Jonathan Demme.

Get a fucking clue!!

Brad Davis did it almost 20 years ago
and did a good job.

It must chap Germany's ass to have this
short, in-the-closet, raving cultist
play a real German hero.

And for the record, Stauffenberg
was not a member of the Nazi
party.

Many of the aristocrats in the army
never became Nazis.

Everytime I look at Cruise, I think Scientology freak.

Even if the film is good, I don't care. I still think it.

I suddenly feel the need to go rent 1992's awful Nazi soap SHINING THROUGH, in which Melanie Griffith convinces Michael Douglas to send her as a spy into Nazi Germany because of her phenomenal streudel baking skills. NO JOKE!!!

This piece just comes off as a vicious slam, not a legitimate comment. Cruise and the English actors (and the Dutch actresses) are just speaking English the way they do. It's an English-language movie. The story has been filmed before in German, with German actors--did any of you ever see it at the local multiplex? No, because it wasn't there! The alternative would be to have all the Anglo-American actors speaking English with bogus German accents and sounding like Colonel Klink in "Hogan's Heroes"--ridiculous. They want a bigger audience for this than an art-house audience. The story of July 20, 1944, has never been filmed with this kind of money and star power behind it, never, and I say good for them and good for Tom Cruise, although I've got no love for Scientology either.

Calling this a "truly terrible trailer" on the Huffingtonpost entertainment homepage really says something about the attitudes of the editors here. First, it simply isn't accurate; at worst, this is just another Hollywood formula trailer, nothing exceptionally good or bad. But it also reveals again that Arianna's otherwise excellent site pre-judges (or spins) certain subjects in a negative way regardless of reality. Yeah, I get the idea that the Huffpost crew hates Cruise for being a religious fanatic who has said some stupid things in public. And that's fine. No doubt the increasing tabloid content here gets lots of hits. But to actually twist coverage of Cruise or any other subject (via headlines, etc.) to reflect that bias diminishes the site, making it no more dependable than O'Reilly or Limbaugh.

When is he gonna do a movie about the importance of Scientology in a person's life?

At least he won't have to try to act.
