Alberto Gonzales Defense Fund Begins

Supporters of former attorney general Alberto R. Gonzales have created a trust fund to help pay for his legal expenses, which are mounting in the face of an ongoing Justice Department investigation into whether Gonzales committed perjury or improperly tampered with a congressional witness.

The establishment of a legal defense fund for the nation's former chief law enforcement officer underscores the potential peril confronting Gonzales, who is one of a handful of attorneys general to face potential criminal charges for actions taken in office.

Gonzo said the international standards for treatment of prisoners was "obsolete" and "quaint", and so long as they didn't die or have their organs fail, then torture of any kind was cool.

Of course there will be those who are so relieved that Gonzo and later, the rest of this band of thugs called the Bush administration are, or will be gone that they are almost willing to let bygones be bygones.
But, this is a much more terrible, damaging situation, brought on themselves through greed, lust for power and arrogance.
Just to let them all ankle into retirement, eventually, with a pension would hardly serve justice.
I think that the rule of law should apply even more precisely for these criminals than it might for those who were garden-variety, petty criminals.
ALL of those in the Bush Administration who skirted or outright ignored the laws meant to protect the people should pay, the same way any common criminal does, because in the final analysis, that's what they are, no matter how they attempt to convince the public that they are somehow different.
Thousands of people have died and been permanently affected, either simply by having years of their lives stolen, or being permanently injured, many handicapped for life.
There is no punishment severe enough to make up for what they have knowingly done.
To paraphrase POGO, we have seen the Axis Of Evil, and it is THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION, each and every one of them. If they were not directly involved in the commission of willful acts of terror, they were all, at the very least, enablers.
A pox on the lot of them.
