KARL ROVE TO BECOME NEWSWEEK CONTRIBUTOR

New York--Karl Rove, the former White House deputy chief of staff, will become a Newsweek contributor, offering occasional opinion pieces to the pages of the magazine and to Newsweek.com.

"Newsweek has a long tradition of asking practitioners and opinion-makers to offer our readers the benefits of their experience in occasional opinion essays," said Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham. "Whether one agrees or disagrees with Karl, there is no arguing that he has been a critical player in the political world with insights and experiences that we think will give our readers something unique. A great recent example is George Stephanopoulos, who did terrific work for us after he left the Clinton White House in the second term."

Meacham is getting very good at writing pre-emptively defensive press release copy. Though we think Bill O'Reilly will be okay with this one.

(NB: For better or for worse, this is the image I now associate with Karl Rove, thanks to one of the most inexplicably popular posts I ever did at FishbowlNY. Come on, people, I had to spice up Plamegate somehow. Yes, if only Valerie Plame Wilson had looked good in photos.)

Why put Newstweak's reputation at risk with an immoral deformity? Why not just let him write a letter to the editor once in a while, preferably from prison? Does anyone care what he says, aside from testimony under oath, or perhaps, with the aid of waterboarding?

I like to keep things really simple.

Someone shoot Karl Rove, and don't spare the bullets, even though they cost more than a dollar per.

See what I mean? Simple!

I'll never read another Newsweek again. They should be flooded with letters, emails, and or phone calls telling them so. I hope all who have posted here will do the same. This is unacceptale and a slap in the face to all honest Americans. Contributor my foot!

It's not enough to just cancel your subscription. That won't get it done.

Democrats and Progressives should seize all copies of Newsweek as soon as they appear on the stands, and then publicly burn them.

This will send a clear message to the NeoCon Overlords that We The People will stand and fight for our Constitutional Rights!!!

Both these guys a ideological snakes in the grass. The only difference is, well, there's just not that big a difference at all. I think this will be great political sport!

What are you people so afraid of? Here is your chance to have the darling of liberals and leftist everywhere go head to head with your arch enemey. Or, is that the problem?

This will be fantastic!

Up until now Karl has always lurked in the darkness. Now people will read what he has to say and respond. Hopefully his editor will require him to defend what he has to say.

This gig will also take time from his election stealing efforts - unless that is already wrapped up.

Newsweek must be desperate. I started receiving their magazine without subscribing about a month ago. When they sent the bill, I wrote in big letters "I DID NOT SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR MAGAZINE" and highlighted it. I'm still receiving it. Now that Rove is contributing, I'm even less inclined to buy the rag.
