FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

KARL ROVE TO BECOME NEWSWEEK CONTRIBUTOR

New York--Karl Rove, the former White House deputy chief of staff, will become a Newsweek contributor, offering occasional opinion pieces to the pages of the magazine and to Newsweek.com.

"Newsweek has a long tradition of asking practitioners and opinion-makers to offer our readers the benefits of their experience in occasional opinion essays," said Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham. "Whether one agrees or disagrees with Karl, there is no arguing that he has been a critical player in the political world with insights and experiences that we think will give our readers something unique. A great recent example is George Stephanopoulos, who did terrific work for us after he left the Clinton White House in the second term."

Meacham is getting very good at writing pre-emptively defensive press release copy. Though we think Bill O'Reilly will be okay with this one.

(NB: For better or for worse, this is the image I now associate with Karl Rove, thanks to one of the most inexplicably popular posts I ever did at FishbowlNY. Come on, people, I had to spice up Plamegate somehow. Yes, if only Valerie Plame Wilson had looked good in photos.)

Unfortunately, Rove will turn out to be alot more like Dotson in print.

Dotson, when you read his columns in the newspaper, seems like a fairly reasoned thinker and puts a common sense type spin on his positions. It's only after delving into his sermon like speeches(it would go against his organizations tax exempt status to actually preach, now wouldn't it?), that you get a picture of how rightwing his beliefs really are.

John Meacham on Kos(sack):
"We have always sought to represent a diversity of views in Newsweek, and we think Markos will be a great part of that tradition. He will give our readers in print and online a unique perspective. As always, our job is to create the most energetic and illuminating magazine possible, and Markos will help us do that as the campaign unfolds."
John Meacham on Karl Rove:
"Our readers are sophisticated enough to know that what they get from Karl has to be judged in the context of who Karl is...Readers will have to decide if he's simply an apologist."
Yeah...you can tell that Mr Meacham sounds fair and balanced and unbiased as hell....can't you?

Now we know why Rove bailed on Bush so early; so he could get a head start on his Campaign Against the Mongrel Hordes by way of GE employment agency.

(You know, he sort of looks like that grand drag-queen of the Klu Klux Klan that gave that famous speech)

I predict numerous opinion pieces extolling the virtues of Rudy Guiliani, and warnings to America of "illegal aliens" using drivers licenses to commit terrorism.

"Be afwaid. Be vewy, vewy, afwaid!!!"

Kos should quit. He didn't sign up to be a foil for Joseph Goebbles disquised as Elmer Fudd.

We need a print version of the same slobbering confrontation masquerading as "balance" that killed "Crossfire"?

Meecham is a quack. He only pretends to be a journalist on TV. (mainly on MSNBC... I mean, GEtv)

So Time Magazine prints the name of a CIA agent and now Newsweek hires the leaker. What does this say about the corporate "news" in this country?

Well, I'll never buy that magazine again.

Not with the Bush/Rove YUCK factor on it.

PS -- How soon until Rove starts as a contributing writer for the Leavenworth Jailhouse inmate paper?

Where is the surprise in this? Newsweek is right wing tabloid.

I'm all for presenting many sides in a newsmagazine. I think that their choice of Markos (Daily Kos) was great. But Rove is a war criminal not yet charged. He has destroyed our nation almost totally.

He deserves prison, not a spotlight. There are other conservative views to be printed other than his.

How many issues in the next year will have Jesus on the cover and Rove on the inside?

Excuse me while I go puke.

This news of Karl Rove being used by Newsweek comes just when my Newsweek subscription renewal is due. Guess what I'm not going to do.

I'm MCRove and I'm here today
to tell you all why I'm not really gay
all of you say I'm a sniveling pansy
but in my life I've never sucked man seed.

I tap my toes while I'm in the bathroom
My i-pod is playing a George Michael tune
If you see me looking in your stall door
Just say HI! and pick that paper off the floor

Now my new job is writing some old crap
I hope this keeps me from taking the rap
I'll spew the bull and see what sticks
It's better than getting paid to suck dicks

Ooops, once more I'll say, I'm really not gay
I'm very very macho in a very evil way
Just ask my alibi, you don't have to beg
He's the senator from Utah, Larry Craig

Will this give him enough time in the day to continue trolling HuffPost as ownsthepodium and firaxis?

Is he supposed to be the wingnut to balance out Markos (Kos)? I'm letting my Time expire b/c I'm sick of Time-Warner in general, Newsweek won't be an option for me either.

Good News: According to a survey conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency, Newsweek magazine was found to be the most biodegradable paper product on the market. It is especially useful for wrapping fish, and now with Rove onboard, the fish smell will be indistinguishable from the magazine itself.

OK, so is Charlie Manson also going to be a contributor? Heck, he is responsible for killing a LOT less people.

How about a comic section from Scooter Libby?

Tales out of jail from Duke Cunningham?

What about a torture center fold or mutilated body of the month?
