KARL ROVE TO BECOME NEWSWEEK CONTRIBUTOR

New York--Karl Rove, the former White House deputy chief of staff, will become a Newsweek contributor, offering occasional opinion pieces to the pages of the magazine and to Newsweek.com.

"Newsweek has a long tradition of asking practitioners and opinion-makers to offer our readers the benefits of their experience in occasional opinion essays," said Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham. "Whether one agrees or disagrees with Karl, there is no arguing that he has been a critical player in the political world with insights and experiences that we think will give our readers something unique. A great recent example is George Stephanopoulos, who did terrific work for us after he left the Clinton White House in the second term."

Meacham is getting very good at writing pre-emptively defensive press release copy. Though we think Bill O'Reilly will be okay with this one.

(NB: For better or for worse, this is the image I now associate with Karl Rove, thanks to one of the most inexplicably popular posts I ever did at FishbowlNY. Come on, people, I had to spice up Plamegate somehow. Yes, if only Valerie Plame Wilson had looked good in photos.)

Let's wait and see what Mr. Dubious will dish out.

It will be a good exercise for the reader, and alternative to a crossword puzzle, to figure out how his English dictionary is put together.

Let's see: how do you define victory. guys? And how Carl defines victory?

7 down: misplaced 2 million people, 7 letters, with a T as the sixth letter.

No reason to ever read that rag again--not that I did too often--maybe picked it up in the dentist'd office--Karl Rove should be behind bars! Shame on that magarag!

Tells you a lot about Newsweek's value judgments on its contributors. Who's next? Ann Coulter?

If Hitler were still alive, Newsweek would've nabbed him a millisecond. Fox would've done a tribute special - and would've called complaints by Dems as petty and quaint. Hitler would've been right up there with O'Reilly and G. Gordon Liddy. They ALL share the exact same views and values.

That should tell you a LOT about the direction our country is taking. And you were worried about a nipple during the Super Bowl?

Not much can be done if Newsweek has already brought Rove on board.
BUT, once he has his column or whatever it's going to be, that he produces for Newsweek, the public [that's YOU] are free to access the Letters To The Editor section and actually have access to him and influence on whether or not he will continue to write for them.
Rove is more of a slimey schemer and shit-disturber than he is anything else.
He can't hurt anybody who fights back in print now.
The pen is mightier..............
Hit him where he lives.......his ego.
His kind live by sucking the life out of those around them. Don't give him silence.
But, I did wonder what he was planning to do, now that he had left Bush's employ to "spend more time with his family."
His family must have stronger stomachs than mine.

Good choice, Newsweak...
How about a nice editorial lamenting on how the American political scene is lower than the gutter these days. After all, you do have the preeminent expert in the field now.

Karl Rove and Newsweek? Okey dokey. Just kill me now. I've seen it all. Nah, I'm just kiddin' ya. Members of the ruling class tend to land on their feet, no matter how disgraced or repudiated ... and ole Karl was neither. I mean, *we* don't like him, but his peers in the ruling class still think he did a good job. His opinions will hold a fair amount of cachet until/unless the neocons are entirely bounced from power, and they won't be. They have way too much money. Look for ole Karl to be writing a book one of these days ... #1 NY Times bestseller. Count on it.

So much for credibility at Newsweek. Did I mention I will cancel my subscription.

As I recall, Rove tried to destroy Newsweek over the Koran-flushing story — a story later proven to be substantially correct. How spineless of them to hire him.
Makes me wish I hadn't already canceled my Newsweek subscription over their constant Jesus covers. I'd love to cancel it again.

You gotta remember this is the same news magazine that's carried an end piece by George Will for years. It's not that much of a step down to Karl Rove.

Meacham, you unctuous p***k!

The only thing I want to see from Karl Rove is a diary from inside prison!

With Rove's Koolaide wagon in the ditch, he's found another soap box to spew his BS from. Who cares?
Rove is YESTERDAY. So is his redneck idiotic world.
