Harry Reid Calls Bush A Bully

Reuters reports this afternoon:

Democrats who lead Congress likened President George W. Bush on Thursday to a bully on Iraq war policy and vowed to spend no more on combat without a deadline for bringing U.S. troops home.

"He damn sure is not entitled to having this money given to him just with a blank check," Sen. Harry Reid, the Democrats' Senate leader, told reporters.

"Americans need someone fighting for them taking on this bully we have in the White House," he said.

Reid and other Democrats, who hold slim majorities in both houses of Congress, accused Bush of wanting a free-flow of hundreds of billions of dollars for the Iraq war, all the while being tight-fisted on the home front.

"Every dollar we spend in Iraq comes at the expense of people in America," Reid said.

Also, Reid is threatening to "keep the Senate in session until Sunday in order to vote on a $50 billion stopgap-spending bill for the Iraq War that also would call for a significant drawdown of U.S. troops in Iraq by the end of next year."

"We'll either do it the easy way or the hard way. It's up to the Republicans," Reid said. "We will have a Sunday vote scheduled. ... If they want to give us consent to have a vote earlier, we'll do that. But if they don't, we're not only going to be here, we're going to be here working."

Reid said he would file a motion to limit debate, or invoke cloture, on the House-passed bill on Friday. If Republicans insist on using all the time available to them to debate the cloture motion, the vote would occur Sunday.

Reid also hinted that he would schedule a series of quorum call votes to make sure Senators stay in town through Sunday for the vote.

"There will be some votes," Reid said. "If people think they can leave town and avoid missing votes, they can't. There will be votes during the day [this weekend]. I have the right to call those votes and I will do that."

This is a precarious time in our Country. Our President - the Commander in Chief - has lost perspective. We don't really know why - we only know that he seems oblivious to the tragic destruction of our proud American image and heritage.

Saudi gang-rape victim is jailed
By Frances Harrison
BBC News

An appeal court in Saudi Arabia has doubled the number of lashes and added a jail sentence as punishment for a woman who was gang-raped.

The victim was initially punished for violating laws on segregation of the sexes - she was in an unrelated man's car at the time of the attack.

When she appealed, the judges said she had been attempting to use the media to influence them.

The attackers' sentences - originally of up to five years - were doubled.

Extra penalties

According to the Arab News newspaper, the 19-year-old woman, who is from Saudi Arabia's Shia minority, was gang-raped 14 times in an attack in the eastern province a year-and-a-half ago.

Seven men from the majority Sunni community were found guilty of the rape and sentenced to prison terms ranging from just under a year to five years.

But the victim was also punished for violating Saudi Arabia's laws on segregation that forbid unrelated men and women from associating with each other. She was initially sentenced to 90 lashes for being in the car of a strange man.

On appeal, the Arab News reported that the punishment was not reduced but increased to 200 lashes and a six-month prison sentence.

The rapists also had their prison terms doubled. But the sentences are still low considering they could have faced the death penalty.

The Arab News quoted an official as saying the judges had decided to punish the girl for trying to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.

The victim's lawyer was suspended from the case, has had his licence to work confiscated, and faces a disciplinary session.

This is to LastSpartanStanding:

Veteran's Day was the other day, and those of us who fought for the freedoms you so casually take for granted find your comments denegrating at the least.

Why don't you do the honorable thing and put yourself in harm's way, so at least you can open your cake hole with dignity. As a combat veteran I'll tell you straight up - when push comes to shove, I'll fuck you like your momma never did. Get lost sonny!

I have come to the sad realization that the Dems are not as powerless as they have lead most to believe..unprincipled perhaps but not powerless..

King George amassed quite a bit of power for the Executive Branch and set some interesting precedents concerning what Decider's can not only do.. but get away with..

I am sure a few of the Dems are just salivating over the thought of inheriting all that delicious POWAH when Bush leaves. Of course I am sure it is POWAH that they dream of using for good and not evil.. but that rarely turns out well either.. especially in a world where Pareto Efficiency is unapologetic and compartmentalized.

If We The People do not figure out a way to save Our Constitution from Executive Molestation.. We are all fucked..even you rich mothafuckas.. in MacMansion neighborhoods wrapped in electrified Hurricane Wire and guarded by Blackwater..

..Additionally.. No Rich Child Left Behind is turning our Public School Children into stone cold morons that couldn't reason themselves out of a paper bag.. Critical Thinking skills are only taught in the Private Prep Schools(CEO School) that don't need federal funding and aren't subject to the mandates.. Educational Apartheid. This has got to stop.. The implications are harrowing for the future of our Nation in a competitive global market.

Unfortunately the Constitution doesn't just re-set every time a new Admenstruation moves into the West Wing..

This is probably our last chance as a populace to effect change and salvage the Constitution.

How sad is it that Reid's grasp of the obvious may well be his country's last hope?

Still, the Democrats should be supported on this. Maybe this is the moment they will start back on the path to redemption. (I'm not holding my breath.)

The end of next year -- disgusting. Why not October? How will Reid justify the deaths in November and December 2008? Why not May? Why not this minute?
