Harry Reid Calls Bush A Bully

Reuters reports this afternoon:

Democrats who lead Congress likened President George W. Bush on Thursday to a bully on Iraq war policy and vowed to spend no more on combat without a deadline for bringing U.S. troops home.

"He damn sure is not entitled to having this money given to him just with a blank check," Sen. Harry Reid, the Democrats' Senate leader, told reporters.

"Americans need someone fighting for them taking on this bully we have in the White House," he said.

Reid and other Democrats, who hold slim majorities in both houses of Congress, accused Bush of wanting a free-flow of hundreds of billions of dollars for the Iraq war, all the while being tight-fisted on the home front.

"Every dollar we spend in Iraq comes at the expense of people in America," Reid said.

Also, Reid is threatening to "keep the Senate in session until Sunday in order to vote on a $50 billion stopgap-spending bill for the Iraq War that also would call for a significant drawdown of U.S. troops in Iraq by the end of next year."

"We'll either do it the easy way or the hard way. It's up to the Republicans," Reid said. "We will have a Sunday vote scheduled. ... If they want to give us consent to have a vote earlier, we'll do that. But if they don't, we're not only going to be here, we're going to be here working."

Reid said he would file a motion to limit debate, or invoke cloture, on the House-passed bill on Friday. If Republicans insist on using all the time available to them to debate the cloture motion, the vote would occur Sunday.

Reid also hinted that he would schedule a series of quorum call votes to make sure Senators stay in town through Sunday for the vote.

"There will be some votes," Reid said. "If people think they can leave town and avoid missing votes, they can't. There will be votes during the day [this weekend]. I have the right to call those votes and I will do that."

At election time, we will judge you by how intensely and how effectively you opposed the agenda of the Bush-Cheney cabal. We will pay special attention to your efforts in ending the Iraq fraud.

That goes for all candidates for Presidency, the House and the Senate, Democrats, Republicans and all others.

-No additional troops.
-No more Iraq fraud funding.

For the 110th Congress, that magical number (60) is never going to show up. Not enough Democrats, not enough conscientious Republicans. And until the '06 elections, Bush did get everything he wanted (blank check) hence his preception of entitlement. If Congress had acted in accordance with the Constitution and "checked" Bush, we would not be mired in this abysmal, costly war.

Instead of throwing hissyfits about the Democrats, should everybody light candles under the Republican asses (or maybe a flamethrower would be more appropriate). Chuck Hagel for example talks a good talk on TV shows, but never backs it up with votes either. The Dems need Reps to override any veto. So when to we write, email or call the Repubs and start kicking their asses?

Wow. There's so many self-hating Democrats on here, it's hard to tell who the Republican trolls are. This is how we sabotage ourselves in every election - yes we need to have a spine, but it's not Harry Reid's fault this is the most appalling administration in modern history. Maybe it's "the people's" fault for not speaking even louder and giving Reid a majority that would overturn a veto.

I wonder why Republicans haven't been throwing temper tantrums about W.'s dismantling of our Constitution? Why have they not been shrieking about W.'s unveiled contempt for the Congress and any rule of law? Why were they not howling in protest when it became clear that Gonzo was not serving the people but was instead enforcing the political ideology of a dry drunk and lunatic? Nope, all the Republicans can do instead is march in lockstep like mindless sheep behind their pathetic Dictator Bush. These are the same folks who railed, vented self-righteously and spewed venom about Bill Clinton and a consensual affair. The small stuff matters to Republicans. Especially the small stuff as it relates to the big SEX. The big stuff like lying us into a war, torture, installing a U.S. dictatorship at home does not matter to them, as long as one of their's is doing the dirty work fit for criminals and thugs of the sewer.

So much negativity and nay-saying here. to be expected, of course, from the slobbering republican toads lurking here. but democrats, too? Hope springs eternal, they say, so I am gonna give Reid a chance to get this right instead of running him down in advance.
