Former Sen. John Edwards, who ran for president in 2004 with an unfailingly upbeat campaign and then joined the ticket of his party's nominee, has come back this year with a fighting edge - an edge which Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York has likened to "mudslinging... right out of the Republican playbook.''

"I don't think so,'' Edwards said of the complaint which Clinton lodged about his criticism for her in the debate of the Democrat candidates in Las Vegas last week. "The idea that that this is mudslinging... We're talking about substantive issues of war,'' Edwards said on CBS News' Face the Nation today. "If anybody, including Sen. Clinton, thinks this is mudslinging - this is milquetoast, compared to what we're going to see next fall.''

evaluating any Dem candidate and their opposition without factoring in the effect of the GOP directed talk radio monopoly on the lazy establishment media that feeds off its bandwagon of uncontested synchronized repetition of lies, distortions, exaggerations, and talking points is futile. every Dem candidate should be monitoring stranscripts of the main talk radio blowhards and wearing their attacks as a badge of honor.

clinton, obama, edwards and all the rest will and have largely been defined with GOP talk radio and the 50-70 MIL it reaches directly. not to mention the rest of the media that feeds off it and the tertiary effect as the rumors and one-liners spread from the water coolers. milquetoast is right.

Hillary buries Edwards in every debate folks! And I'm supporting Biden!

John Edwards has done plenty to make people think twice about his sincerity: Mr. Mill-Worker's Son/Hedge Fund Poobah, Grotesque Mansion Owning zillionaire.

He's at least the hypocrite she is, but he acts like a man of the people. I don't buy it.

I think of mudslinging as negative comments that are inaccurate or exaggerated.

I watched the event. I didn't see any mud slinging. There were no cheap shots or questionable claims that I could discern.

Senator Clinton has made comments that sounded contradictory to me. I think that calling the disagreement "mudslinging" was just a bad choice of words.

Hillary is certainly the brightest and most intelligent of the canditates. But Hillary's intelligence is the artificial intelligence of a computer incapable of being informed by empathic feeling. We've just had administrations top heavy with these types and look at the devastation. It's a cold house Hillary would keep. We don't need it.

John, get your finger out of the air! Jeez, you look like a trial lawyer trying to convince a bunch of rubes that lies are truth.

How about Edwards/Biden!
I, too, thought it was pretty weak for Sen. Clinton to even complain about "mudslinging." That type of weakness is exactly what the Republicans will be sniffing around for like sharks. If she thinks that will win her sympathy as a woman, she should think again. Just as she probably rightly feels that she has to be a hawk to convince people she's not "weak" because she's a woman, the last thing she should do is complain about the slinging of mud. That's incredibly weak.
To paraphrase Sen. Clinton about why people "attack" her (because she's ahead), she's accusing Edwards of "mudslinging" exactly because he's right on the issues, and she knows it.
I'm terribly disappointed with Sen. Clinton this year after having really liked her for a very long time. Sen. Edwards has both my vote and my financial support.
Edwards/Biden!

I support Hillary at this time because of her past track record. She's spent a life working for children and families and I'm making the leap of faith that that's where her priorities are. I think she's smart and can do the best good working in the system that's in place now. She said she doesn't particularly agree with NAFTA. She said she's for campaign finance reform, although I don't know to what degree. I feel like Edwards has some good things to say but he's burning the franchise in his singular quest. He virtually made the Repubs a commercial. He can point out the differences without inflicting so much damage to others, particularly whomever is leading. I like the turth, but to me he's too selfish.

This underhanded and dirty approach is inevitable when dealing with Clintons. It's mud-slinging of the highest order to plant stories in an unlikely places and blame Obama for challenging them. They just want to tarnish his image. They'll do anything to win. Well, this is the problem of this 'old' and 'tired' dynastic candidates who feel entitled. The Clinton's have enriched themselves and are best friends to hedge fund executives and millionaires. Why don't they rest on their laurels and leave the political stage. The country needs real leaders not these greedy, slick, power hungry individuals like Clintons.

I would take Obama's inexperience over Hillary's total lack of ethics and morals any day of the week, at least Obama has a proper basis and foundation as a human being to be president.

I'm wondering what this has to do with the issues? You know, I don't think I've read anything on this site that even mentions policy of the candidates. Why is that? As for all of you populist lovers out there, it's mob rule and goes against the very system of government that the founding fathers invisioned, based on individual freedoms. Obama and Edwards are the worst of the populists, they have no particular pragmatism about the world and our place in it. Last, but not least, I hear laughter out there? OMG, it's republicans laughing at the democrates because they are so easily maniuplated and are their won worst enemies.

Americans will vote no to hillary no, no to divisive politics, no to lies, the office of president will not be given to someone who doesnt want to be questioned on what their stand is regarding issues, (asking hillary to clarify her positions is not attacking her) she doesnt want to be attacked but she has called obama "naive and inexperienced" what a hypocrite she is!!!

C'mon Obama, knock Hillary out of the race!!

Edwards is the only Democrat candidate that is fearless enough to tell it like it is about Hillary. Frankly, I don't know where the hell Hillary stands on issues. She's here, she's there, she's everywhere.

Hillary's response....waaaaaah, waaaaaaaaah.

Pay no attention to the woman behind the curtain.

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

-Tennyson, "Ulysses"

If you believe, believe with all that you are.

Our differences will be our strength.

Become elected as a delegate for your party and let your voice be heard. This matters MORE than and financial contribution you could make.

For me, I believe HRC will be 4 years of crocodile tears. That is my opinion, but the difference is, of course, where we all speculate.

Want to change history? Become a delegate to your party.
