Jessica Seinfeld On Plagiarism Charges: "It Must Have Been Hard To See How Quickly My Book Took Off"

Jessica Seinfeld continued to promote her cookbook "Deceptively Delicious" on "The View" today. She also answered Barbara Walters' question about charges of recipe plagiarism. This spring Missy Chase Lapine wrote "The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals," and some thought Jessica's recipes were eerily familiar.

When Jerry was on Letterman last month (watch here, scroll down) he mocked the charges of vegetable "plagiarism," but Jessica had yet to respond on air until today.

To paraphrase: Missy is jealous because her book didn't debut at the top of best-seller lists and get her on Oprah. And why would Jessica steal recipes, because she doesn't need the money, anyway.

Not much of a defense. She's upset because she's not on the View and I am and she's not married to Jerry Seinfeld and I am. As someone said above "Thou doth protest too much." If she really didn't do it, she'd bring out the passages she was accused of copying and say-this is nonsense.

Sure, she "understands" how Missy could be upset over this, but the question is, does Jessy understand that
if she didn't have a "Seinfeld" tacked on the end of her
name she would have never have gotten on Oprah
and wouldn't have sold any books either.
The smugness and arrogance displayed by her and her husband recently has been such a huge turn-off to me.

Its funny, now shes gotten herself locked into a corner. Instead of instantly going to her publisher and examining the "other" book and demanding answers to why her ghost written book looked so much like a rip off, she took the low ground and will be forced to defend to eternity.
Better to have said, "Oh, I'm sorry, here take my residuals, I don't need the money, I just wanted to get the message out to parents."
Otherwise, it looks like...ooo­ps she needed the money and craved personal fame. tsk tsk
What formerly was "such a cute little wife and family" now is a tainted rich bitch with no feelings for the real writers that need the income

The concept of mashing veggies up and putting them in kids meals is older than my granny. I had a book with similar recipes when my kids were little and almost every mom group with a cookbook is filled with those ideas.

I have to confess, I am tempted to buy Missy Chase Lapine's "The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals" just because it must have been a difficult sell for her to have it published and she's probably deserving of some support. Very different from a "wife of" who gets favors from hubby's editor and friends.

She's a liar plain and simple.

She stole the book, and her publisher probably helped her to steal from the woman who did it originally knowing she has a famous last name.

That she has nothing better to do in her life than steal other's work shows just how shallow she really is. Walked off from her husband to marry a very rich famous man, and then steals someone else's work.

I can't understand why people buy her book when it is so obvious she stole it.

And are we really to expect she does all the cooking when she lives in a house bigger than most city blocks on property bigger than several city blocks?

Has anybody compared any recipes from the two volumes in question? I think it's very suspicious when the same theme appears within a short period. And nobody does a book strictly for the money; it's to do something notable, instead of just being somebody's spouse. At least, that's why they say Bill Clinton is still writing.

My suspicion doesn't stop here. How about all the models doing cooking shows? I watch the close-ups during the Giada De Laurentiis segments for what I call "Gorilla Paws." I suspect lip-syncing.

I know one thing, and that's when I'm on the lookout for some new healthy recipes, I ALWAYS turn first to the latest cookbook ghost-written for a celebrity's wife. And if it's autographed by the celebrity's wife then the recipes are just that much better - and better tasting!

but they both have been so mean-spirited about it and trying to control the flow of information with only their "side" being the most prevalent that this is taking on the stink of something far worse than spinach in brownies.

I work in a bookstore and after reading about the possible plagerism, we went and took a copy of each. Seinfeld's book has identical recipes. The covers both have carrots. The fact that they were forced to change the cover from hiding the carrots behind the back is very telling,not to mention that Missy shopped her book with Seinfeld's publisher last year speaks for itself.
