Black Friday marks one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Many retailers open early and offer discounts on popular holiday gifts to attract consumers. Compete conducted a survey of over 900 consumers planning on shopping this holiday season. Nearly half of those surveyed will head to the stores on Black Friday to take advantage of the deals. 57% plan on completing over half of their holiday shopping on that day.

When asked what time they will begin their trek to various retail outlets, 62% plan on getting to the stores before 8 a.m. Over a third of respondents will start their Black Friday shopping at Wal-Mart (WMT). The store had already began releasing deals on select products such as laptop computers ($348) as early as Nov. 1.

Over 100,000 people are boycotting any type of shopping this Friday. It's called Buy Nothing Day (http://www.adbusters.org/home/) Why not join them and show your distaste for what's become of our Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays--a consumer feeding frenzy. Check out the brilliant documentary "What Would Jesus Buy?" opening today in many cities across the U.S. http://wwjbmovie.com/

President Bush has just made the statement, (to paraphrase); 'that we have prosperity that lifts all citizens'.
What a crock of beans!

I can't believe the transparency of this charade. Go Shopping?! The vast majority of folks are just holding on. Worried about juggling stagnant incomes, the spectre of the price of everything needed just to keep base life afoot going way up. We're so backed into a corner, in debt heavily and the plaintive suggestion in all types of media is to ignore the reality and spend our hearts out!
I'll admit to having been a good consumer lo' these many years. I regret that I needed all of the gadgets of my era. But now, I resent the constant pandering which is so intrusive on so many levels.
So this year, I'm further distancing myself from the 'loop' I seem to have left some time ago.
I'll visit Loved One's bearing some baked goods the making of which I've seen after myself. No grand gestures in terms of guilt spending, as I am just holding on myself.

"It's Christmas, Buy This Crap", fits perfectly here, too, thanks Mr. Smith. Gullible idiots.
