President Bush yesterday offered his strongest support of embattled Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, saying the general "hasn't crossed the line" and "truly is somebody who believes in democracy."

Bush spoke nearly three weeks after Musharraf declared emergency rule, sacked members of the Supreme Court and began a roundup of journalists, lawyers and human rights activists. Musharraf's government yesterday released about 3,000 political prisoners, although 2,000 remain in custody, according to the Interior Ministry.

The comments, delivered in an interview with ABC News anchor Charles Gibson, contrasted with previous administration statements -- including by Bush himself -- expressing grave concern over Musharraf's actions. In his first public comments on the crisis two weeks ago, Bush said his aides bluntly warned Musharraf that his emergency measures "would undermine democracy."

When BushCo calls for martial law here I guess we should just trust that it's for our own good and for the defense of 'democracy'.

Belief is not as important as practice.

for a country hell bound on spreading 'democracy' around the world we sure do have a peculiar fetish for supporting dictators and tyrants.

This gives one some significant insight into what the lying little dipshit's notion of "democracy" is . . .

I think it's been clear since before he was elected that Bush neither knows nor cares about who Musharraf is. To Bush, he is an ally of convenience, and that's all that jerk in the White House cares about.

I can hardly imagine how the word 'democracy' can pass Bush's lips without him choking on it.

Remember that famous interview in 2000 when Bush was asked to name the leader of Pakistan and he couldn't? "I call him 'The General'," was his answer. How anybody was fooled by this guy ... I just can't fathom it.

LOL

No matter how many years of Bush's ignorance and ideology are behind us, he still never ceases to tickle us with his lies.

His dads, "liberation of Kuwait" has suceeded in nothing more than buttressing a country that our own State Department still claims has slavery, and his best friends, the Saudis, are irredeemably fundamentalist, have no self-determination, have abysmal human rights records and are making ZERO strides toward moving into the 20th century ... let alone the 21st century.

So we should all be impressed with his thoughts, opinions and impressions of Pakistan, right?

Uh ... no.

Does Chimpie think we're all stupid? Or is he brain-dead? Or is it both?

Musharrif believes in democracy, he just does not want to practice it. This is really doublethink.
Bush actually believes the crap he is spouting and has convinced 30 percent of the stupider Americans.

Bush wouldn't know democracy if he fell over it. He's a sociopath, a liar, and a dangerous dictator. He doesn't support Musharraf, he envies the guy, wishing he could burn the constitution and invade and conquer the world. He's sick, sick, sick. But not quite as sick and twisted as those that continue to support him.

this is frightening.....and very telling about what bush sees for america in the future. he sees martial law, suspension of the constitution and jailing of dissidents. this is bush's idea for keeping america safe. this is his idea of democracy. americans fell for his orwellian charade and now we're circling the drain. this is the end for the united states, or at least a very scary turning point. this country has some very tough decisions ahead, and i fear that we won't make the right choices.....we haven't yet anyway. this is bone chilling.

Bush lies when convienient and makes war when he wants. King George or Dictator George has kept us out of his mind when he does what he wants because he has the congress given power to do so.
