Shatner

Extra" caught up with William Shatner last night at a signing for his book, Star Trek Academy - Collision Course. He opened up about the fact that he was not asked to make a cameo in the upcoming Star Trek film saying, "How could you not put one of the founding figures into a movie that was being resurrected? That doesn't make good business sense to me!"

Leonard Nimoy and several past cast members have been offered cameos in the JJ Abrams directed film, which will tell the story of a young Kirk and Spock. Shatner told "Extra" that he would have been great for the film commenting, "I've become even more popular than I was playing Captain Kirk. I'm good box office and I get publicity.... But, they are going in a different direction and it'll be a wonderful film."

Shatner also revealed that the WGA strike has not yet halted production on his hit show, Boston Legal. Shatner says, "We've got two scripts. We will go to the Christmas break, then we come back for a week or so in January."

More with William Shatner Wendesday, November 21 on "Extra."

Personally I would love to see Shatner in a cameo on any Star Trek film. Even if it is a ghost like the superman movies. If for nothing more than respect.

He used to be the master of promotion. Now he's more like the master of disaster. You asked for it, Bill. Get a f*****g life!

Why not cast him as some one in the film?

Even more shocking to me is that they are making a new Star Trek movie!

All the vasoline and Botox in the world can't hide the fact that Shatner is 15 years older now than he was when Kirk "died".

Sheer laziness. This is old news and comes from comments he made LAST week.
If Shatner felt such a need to replay Captain Kirk, he'd have been put on a weight programme years ago. The movie is not about him anymore than STNG was throughout its run, and his comments are reminiscent of the idea that Adam West could resume his dutiesas Batman after a 25 year layoff.

Maybe the "Shat" can play a black hole or a large planet- he looks big enough to have his own gravitational pull.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Capt. Kirk die in the last Star Trek film? Maybe Shatner WILL get a cameo, but it will be an old clip of Capt. Kirk?

this is a badly written article. was it the internet that made "facts" unimportant? only leonard nimoy was offered a part not several past cast members. and it's not a cameo. it's much bigger part than that. and shatner whom i adore has flip flopped with wanting to be in it... then not caring... he's too busy... now how can they do that. it's just a silly way to get some attention. his characters is dead. you would need a whole movie just to bring kirk back to life. which shatner sort of did... in a book he wrote resurrecting himself.

Still, it would be decent as an homage to the guy who was there at the beginning.
Lot's of folks were enthused when he had a substantial role in the 1996 Trek film 'Generations'.

The only way this could be pulled off is if the script had some sort of contorted sci-fi logic involving time travel and stasis fields to explain the older character's cameo presence in the movie. Which is something that is in just about every other Star Trek movie & episode to introduce old cast members.
